With a capacity of 5TB, the Rugged USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C External Hard Drive from LaCie marries a USB 3.0 Type-C interface and data transfer speeds of up to 130 MB/s with rugged durability that provides a drop resistance of up to 4′, crush resistance of up to 1 ton, and rain resistance, making this drive suitable for all-terrain storage, whether you’re in the field or in your home. It can be used to store large Lightroom libraries, as a shuttle drive to transport footage from a set to a post-production house, or just for general tasks.
LaCie’s 5TB Rugged USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C External Hard Drive is compatible with Windows 7 and later and macOS 10.12 and later, but should also work on earlier versions of macOS, such as 10.9 and 10.11. It is powered using the USB bus, meaning that no external power adapters are required for use. Included is a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C cable, a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C to Type-A cable, and two years of Seagate Rescue Data Recovery Services. General protection is provided by a limited 2-year warranty.

Ubiquitous orange drives still deliver, but slowly. Appreciate it includes USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A cables, but the transfer speeds are sluggish compared to everything else (as expected from a spinning disk). Great for incremental transfers, less ideal for large file transfers.

I have only had this hard drive for a month, but I find it reliable so far. I am really hoping it lives up to its reputation and continues to work for a long time. I do video editing and need somewhere to store large video files. It works fast enough that I can work using the files stored on the hard drive. Granted, I haven’t done much intensive video editing or special effects, so I can’t speak to how well it performs in those conditions. I did notice it heated up a bit, but nothing alarming. It was pretty simple to set up. I like the mirror folder thing. Aesthetically it is appealing and stands out, so I can trust I won’t forget it. I appreciated that it came with a type-C and regular/old USB connector.

So I have bought two of these drives, and they were a few months apart. This most recent one came with a different cord and it dismounts the drive all the time. Whether I am touching it or not. Like it will be sitting there and I will be working on a file not moving the my computer or the drive and it will dismount and my work wont be saved. The image I uploaded has the newer cord on the left that doesnt fit into the port at all and dismounts randomly, and the cord on the right is the cord I got when I ordered this drive a few months ago and that one works just fine with both drives.
