With a capacity of 5TB, the Rugged USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C External Hard Drive from LaCie marries a USB 3.0 Type-C interface and data transfer speeds of up to 130 MB/s with rugged durability that provides a drop resistance of up to 4′, crush resistance of up to 1 ton, and rain resistance, making this drive suitable for all-terrain storage, whether you’re in the field or in your home. It can be used to store large Lightroom libraries, as a shuttle drive to transport footage from a set to a post-production house, or just for general tasks.
LaCie’s 5TB Rugged USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C External Hard Drive is compatible with Windows 7 and later and macOS 10.12 and later, but should also work on earlier versions of macOS, such as 10.9 and 10.11. It is powered using the USB bus, meaning that no external power adapters are required for use. Included is a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C cable, a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C to Type-A cable, and two years of Seagate Rescue Data Recovery Services. General protection is provided by a limited 2-year warranty.

I have seen these for years in Apple stores, with the associates actually using them, and always wondered how good these were. After doing some research a month ago, and having many files sitting in my computer of videos, pictures, etc., I decided to buy one. Perfect timing too because on Black Friday they were on sale! I have used it a handful of times, and it is quick, works perfectly with my 2020 Macbook Pro, and there are no glitches, issues, or anything of that sort at all. This is the first LaCie drive I’ve purchased, I love that it is rugged like I had famously seen before I only give it 3 stars because I’ve already had it disconnect from my laptop mid-edit, and so I don’t see a better performance than from my cheaper External Drives With this being said, I will probably continue to buy drives from LaCie because it’s a pain looking for a better one

I take it with me on the go and I don’t worry because of its Protective case around it and the Orange color makes it hard to forget any where. it catches the eye when I look for it. A must Have.

I like LaCie hard drives and I have a variety of them and have never had trouble. Until this time. I have a MacBook pro with USB-A connections, still. The drive with the USB-C cable and adapter didn’t work. It received power through the setup, but not enough to connect and give me the HD icon on the desktop. Tried all workarounds suggested, but no luck. Bought a USB-C to USB-A cable and – so far – it works.

I purchased two Lacie externals to use on my MacBook Pro, they both worked fine for about a week, then they just unmounted. Both wont work on my Macbook, iMac and even tried on my daughter’s Macbook and nothing. Brand new HD’s and they both are not working.
