I bought this drive and failed while under warranty. Amazon referred me to the manufacturer. They sent some software to recover the files but kept giving conflicting information on how to proceed. When they realised I didn’t have enough room to recover the files they sent a replacement. This took about two weeks to decide because of the slow communication. The drive is now stuck in customs because they did not provide the proper paperwork to notify customs it was a replacement and should not be re-taxed (this has been confirmed by customs). This much has taken so long the 30 day license for the software to recover the files has expired. The support team seems disorganised making the same mistakes over and over which I have to correct repeatedly. Judging by all the reviews on Amazon these drives are not reliable and are apparently made by Seagate so customers would be better off looking for something by a better manufacturer.

I really wish I could like this product as all of my fellow photog friends do, however within the month I purchased it, it corrupted and I lost about 5 years worth of work on it. Thankfully I had a backup elsewhere but the drive was deemed unreadable and I had to throw it away. Switched to buffalo since then.

You can get most other 1TB hard drives for under $85 but you wont be able to throw it at a concrete wall like this one.

I mounted the drive and tried to deal with the software on it. This obviously can’t handle the latest Windows, so I decided to format the LaCrie drive (I only want it for storage). After doing that, I copied files to it. After that, nothing on my Computer worked; not Explorer, not Word, not Excel. Nothing. I had nightmares about having to restore from backup. Fortunately, when I rebooted the laptop and formatted the drive again, everything worked well. Not sure it was worth the angst.

The drive suddenly failed and stopped working completely while I was using it. Ive never dropped it and Ive only had it for 4 about 4 months. I was in the middle of a project so I decided to open it and try to fix it myself, which ruined the warranty, and I wasnt surprised about the incident once I found out its actually just a Seagate drive inside a LaCie case…. Goodbye LaCie.

This is an excellent product particularly for field research and backing up data. I have several of these now of varying memory capacity and so far I’m delighted with the speed, quality, capacity, and durability of this product. Excellent value for money and I highly recommend this product.

Drive is as described. Seems rugged (haven’t put it to the test yet) and works well. I get about 95 MB/s read and write, so the absolute fastest but fast enough for archival needs.

These USB-C are HORRIBLE. They all eject. I’ll be sitting still, no movement and they eject. I am so frustrated after EVERY single one of these that I own have been damaged, not my user error. I taped the last one I used for my project and it helped. I didn’t tape this one and I’m sitting here now and my project is damaged after the first time it ejected randomly. I’m so annoyed and won’t buy these ever again.

Ubiquitous orange drives still deliver, but slowly. Appreciate it includes USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A cables, but the transfer speeds are sluggish compared to everything else (as expected from a spinning disk). Great for incremental transfers, less ideal for large file transfers.

It was an easy process after a detrimental loss of my computer. Was able to store my memories safely.
