The 4TB d2 Professional USB 3.1 Type-C External Hard Drive from LaCie features a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port that’s compatible with Thunderbolt 3 devices. In case your system isn’t equipped with a Type-C port, it comes with a Type-C to Type-A adapter.
Inside is a Seagate BarraCuda Pro enterprise-class drive, which spins at 7200 rpm and offers data transfer rates of up to 260 MB/s. The drive is pre-formatted as exFAT, which allows for compatibility with both macOS and Windows systems. If you’re using the drive with only one operating system, you optimize the drive’s performance by reformatting it as NFTS for Windows or HFS+/APFS for macOS.
In addition to its warranty, this drive includes a five-year Rescue Data Recovery Services plan as well as a one-month membership to Adobe Creative Cloud All Apps plan.

I was a little put off by the other reviews but bought this anyway. I’m backing up and consolidating a bunch of smaller Mac-formatted drives. So far, this has been a good experience. It’s a decent 7200rpm and I finally have a drive I can stick straight into the Mac Mini T-bolt 3 holes. 4TB of data transferred very quickly. 1TB at once was even faster. I will want to back up some PC files on here too and the information is that this drive is already formatted to that as well.

I bought 4 units. Opened only one and connected it to my Windows 10 computer. No problem. Clicked on start here and it directed me to download the Toolkit. Tried to open it and it just does not open when you double click. Downloaded the LaCie desktop manager, and it gave me a warning no compliant device found. It is supposed to have software to reformat the disk to make it more compatible with windows, I believe in the toolkit, which did not open. It is supposed to have software to back up and mirror disks, but I believe this is in the desktop manager which does not recognize the disk. There is no support number, or advise on what to do, but I paid premium dollars for this HDD as there are others much less expensive, so a little pdf file guiding you on what to setup and why would have been nice. I am experienced in working with computers but this takes the prize for less friendly setup. Since they also direct you to Seagate (I believe the manufacturer) I dont see any reason to buy from LaCie.

Great HDD Driver, but it’s a bit slower than the LaCie Porshe Design..

I am very pleased with the LaCie 10TB d2 Professional Hard Drive. I bought 2 of these. One is for all my files, such as, photos, videos and music. The second drive is for a backup of the first drive. The drives are quiet and are fast. I have had no problems with them.

Keeps randomly disconnecting. Did basic trouble shooting, all other of my drives work perfectly (non-Lacie brand). Super disappointed, going to try to return & get a different one. Not risking my data!

Using as a time machine backup. Not sure how fast it is for other usage but I do wish it also supported thunderbolts so I could have connected to by TB LaCie 2Big directly.

Nice, high speed hard drive. Fast enough for light 4K video editing.

Does LaCie do any QC whatsoever? Tried two different power cables plus different outlets and the drive wouldn’t even turn on straight out of the box.

This external drive is fast, quiet and well made. It is a perfect work or backup drive for images. It is fast enough for video as well.

I bought this to use on my 27inch Imac and so far it works great. No problems.

I hooked it up a day or two after I received it. It is connected to an older Mac so I needed a USB C rtf USB A cable which I had on hand. Once connected it worked as expected and I immediately copied about 3.4 terabytes of images to it. Of course for that many files of that size it took several hours but that wasn’t a problem. No problems with it, works as expected and really that is about all you can ask for.

Not as fast as an SSD drive, but for Time Machine backups, the LaCie 8TB d2 Professional USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C External Hard Drive, works fine. After the initial backup, which does take several hours, it is quiet and attractively designed. Replaced a similar G-Tech 6TB drive which failed under warranty after 18 months. After waiting 4 weeks for WD to honor their warranty, I got tired of waiting and bought the LaCie. I have many years reliable service from another LaCie external drive. And the new LaCie includes 5 years data recovery service. So LaCie is the only brand of spinning hard drives I’ll buy going forward.

Just like all of my previous LaCies, it works as expected, plug and play. I did reformat the drive to the MacOs Journaled HFS+ type.

Pretty fast and feels super robust. I wish there where an option to block the light as it blinks pretty bright and it can be distracting. Alternatively everyone is going gaga for rgb….

The bright blue light on the front is the on-off switch. I almost didn’t buy this due to other reviews saying there was no switch. I received mine 2/9/2022 for a point of reference. I was also expecting typical mechanical drive sounds from it, but it is very quiet! I ran some random file transfer tests and it averaged round 225 MB/s writing to the 10TB d2 through my USB-C port with very little variance. I did laugh when I saw how bright and distracting the blue light in the on-off switch was once it started flashing to show drive activity. The main casing is aluminum and very sturdy and it has many small rubber feet on the bottom to isolate it from your desk top. For three bills, this is a great purchase.

The smaller Lacie Hard drives get misplaced by me. The big Lacie’s are great, and I can find them. Never got a bad one. And the 8 TB d2 is excellent.

This is my third LaCie external drive, very reliable as usual. Recommended

The drive is fast and completely quiet, but if you use it with Windows, you should format it as NTFS. It comes as an exFAT, which will work with Mac and Windows, but with Windows it is slow and annoying. The drive has it’s own software for formating, but that requires you to be online. Since I use this drive with a DAW that stays offline, I used Windows 10 formating option when I clicked on Properties. Quick format was instantaneous.

This is my 3rd LaCie External Hard Drive. I have never had a problem with these drives. The quality, craftsmanship, and price are a win, win. win.
