The 4TB d2 Professional USB 3.1 Type-C External Hard Drive from LaCie features a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port that’s compatible with Thunderbolt 3 devices. In case your system isn’t equipped with a Type-C port, it comes with a Type-C to Type-A adapter.
Inside is a Seagate BarraCuda Pro enterprise-class drive, which spins at 7200 rpm and offers data transfer rates of up to 260 MB/s. The drive is pre-formatted as exFAT, which allows for compatibility with both macOS and Windows systems. If you’re using the drive with only one operating system, you optimize the drive’s performance by reformatting it as NFTS for Windows or HFS+/APFS for macOS.
In addition to its warranty, this drive includes a five-year Rescue Data Recovery Services plan as well as a one-month membership to Adobe Creative Cloud All Apps plan.

Been using the earlier version and that has performed perfectly finger crossed since I got it. Needed extra room and the connectivity options are great. Recommend.

I chose this drive because although a previous LaCie (Seagate) failed me, the technicians sent me a new disk with my data restored. You don’t need to know how and why the backup of the drive also failed, but the result was that I needed and received my data back via the recovery services that come with these drives. And they are easy and fast and reliable, in short, you get what you are shopping for. I have not figured out how to turn off the disco-dancing led light show that plays when the drive is in use, but I put tape over it. It still wastes my electric power, but it is less distracting covered up.

I needed something that I could just set up and leave to dom it’s job and 10Tb was the perfect solution as my computer hard drive was getting slow and overloaded, so my work gets transferred and then backs up to another hard drive.

Set up was easy. Drive is very quiet. A bit slower than I expected.

For the price, it’s worth the money…

I just replaced a 6 year old Lacie d2 with this one. Basically plugged it in to my iMac and I’m rockin’ ‘n’ rollin’. I’ve also used their Rugged drives, all with rock solid performance. You can’t go wrong with Lacie .

The LaCie d2 Pro Hard Drives have always been a reliable, fast and economical choice for storage. My only wish: I wouldn’t mind it if this one had alternate connection ports, ie USB-A, for connecting to slightly older computers, and/ or an additional port for daisy-chaining. Otherwise- GREAT

I bought two to replace two 3 TB drives that were 5 years old. Easy to install; everything was in the box. I give it four stars because: A. I haven’t had it long enough for an evaluation of reliability; B. I wish it offered more connection options for my Mac Mini.

I’ve had LaCie hard drives for over 15 years probably. This one died within one week. After a few email rounds with customer support they said they would send me another one after I pay to return the first. I am awaiting the refurbished replacement. Seems a little strange to get a refurbished unit as a replacement for a unit that failed in 1 week.

We needed a large capacity drive to work on our Western Shoshone documentary . we would have preferred a ssd but costs was prohibitive right now. hopefully this will end up being our backup and we’ll get an SSD for the bulk of the project. I have to say that the drive shows no lag and working in 2K seems to be just fine.

I had a ton of data to transfer to this drive and it went with ease. I’ve very happy with this product so far.

I was impressed with the construction materials – a metal housing, not flimsy plastic. Setup and operation was seamless, and the data transfer rate was about 50% faster than my previous external HD. Ask me in 5 or 6 years about longevity.

I’ve been using LaCie hard drives for many years. I can have five or six hard drive plugged into my Mac Pro at any time. I don’t keep them all running so I like to turn them off and only turn them on when I need them, but with the newer models there is no-off switch.

I love these drives in the 4-6tb configurations. I purchased the 10tb configuration cause B&H was sold out of the smaller ones. This drive works for storage but for video and raw photo processing… I think its too much of a workload for this amount of storage. I’ll stick to the smaller amounts of storage theyre working better for me. I own 6 of these.

Do your homework and buy a different brand. Is it really worth it to you put everything you care about on a drive only to see it fail? Because that will be your future. And if you already own one of these, get your data off it immediately and throw it in the trash.

Does what it should quickly and quietly! The included data recovery service adds a bit of peace of mind.

Works great

It works unobtrusively and silently backing up. This is my third La Cie back up. The other two failed but I recognize that all hard drives fail.
