The 8TB d2 Professional USB 3.1 Type-C External Hard Drive from LaCie features a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port that’s compatible with Thunderbolt 3 devices. In case your system isn’t equipped with a Type-C port, it comes with a Type-C to Type-A adapter.
Inside is a Seagate BarraCuda Pro enterprise-class drive, which spins at 7200 rpm and offers data transfer rates of up to 260 MB/s. The drive is pre-formatted as exFAT, which allows for compatibility with both macOS and Windows systems. If you’re using the drive with only one operating system, you optimize the drive’s performance by reformatting it as NFTS for Windows or HFS+/APFS for macOS.
In addition to its warranty, this drive includes a five-year Rescue Data Recovery Services plan as well as a one-month membership to Adobe Creative Cloud All Apps plan.

I had never spent any significant money on an external hard drive but I sure wish I had done this earlier. Not that these are the most expensive available but the difference between this and my older externals is night and day. Set up was easy.

This is my third LaCie external drive, very reliable as usual. Recommended

Using to compliment my redundancy for digital files. Quick uploads as described.

Needed a backup drive, thing is sleek looking and performs as advertised (260mb/s) connected to Thunderbolt 3.

I love this drive. Fast and the right size for our needs. Unfortunatly two of them were defective on arrival and I had to get replacements. BH was on it right away with impeccable customer service so it kept the frustration to a minimum.

Pros: compact and easy to set up, although I had to reformat to APFS. Cons: only one USB-C port, which means no daisy chain support. This is my first non-thunderbolt drive, it seems to be reasonably fast.

After 2 months of heavy use, no problems; transfer rates as advertised. I’ve found d2s are highly reliable.

Works great, transfers pretty fast and is nice to use as a “working” harddrive. Boot up time is a bit slow but no real complaints other than that.

I used to depend on B&H for the sage advice of their reps to help me make the correct decision. I guess those days are long gone. The LaCie is OK, but just okay.

I bought 4 units. Opened only one and connected it to my Windows 10 computer. No problem. Clicked on start here and it directed me to download the Toolkit. Tried to open it and it just does not open when you double click. Downloaded the LaCie desktop manager, and it gave me a warning no compliant device found. It is supposed to have software to reformat the disk to make it more compatible with windows, I believe in the toolkit, which did not open. It is supposed to have software to back up and mirror disks, but I believe this is in the desktop manager which does not recognize the disk. There is no support number, or advise on what to do, but I paid premium dollars for this HDD as there are others much less expensive, so a little pdf file guiding you on what to setup and why would have been nice. I am experienced in working with computers but this takes the prize for less friendly setup. Since they also direct you to Seagate (I believe the manufacturer) I dont see any reason to buy from LaCie.

This is my 3rd LaCie External Hard Drive. I have never had a problem with these drives. The quality, craftsmanship, and price are a win, win. win.

I wanted to buy this on Amazon and saw there was a 3-5 week wait. I then found that B&H was selling it here with immediate delivery at a LOWER PRICE! So far I’ve had no issues. It’s fast and reliable and has been working well as a back up for the myriad drives attached to my computer!

Doing the job but I am a little concerned about longevity, due to my previous experience with Lacie drives. Stays cool and spins fast.

Plug it in and it works just fine.

This unit is quiet and MAC ready. I have never had an issue with a Lacie/Seagate drive. I have one Lacie drive that is 14 years old and still works great (slow to today’s standards). Remember that nothing is perfectly reliable so back up everything. I always have 3 active backup drives! I use for photo archive not daily use.

Fit and finish are excellent — metal case with rubber isolating feet. USB-C 3.1 and super fast. Quiet except for a thump when spinning up. 7200 RPM Seagate Ironwolf inside. Only downside is large blue light when active. This has been on Lacie products forever, but its just too large and bright. Even when sleeping the light flashes blue. You won’t be able to aim the drive towards you because of the distraction.

The design and build quality of this are top notch. I assume and hope that durability will follow. Setup is the same as any other external drive, but included instructions are clear for those who need them. I have to reiterate how impressed I am by the quality of the construction. The quality of the feet and aluminum housing are really incredible, and I want more now.

The only HDs I’ve ever used throughout my career. I buy a new one every year and always have two on hand as current working backup and then older ones go in storage. I wouldn’t trust another brand at this point.
