The 8TB d2 Professional USB 3.1 Type-C External Hard Drive from LaCie features a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port that’s compatible with Thunderbolt 3 devices. In case your system isn’t equipped with a Type-C port, it comes with a Type-C to Type-A adapter.
Inside is a Seagate BarraCuda Pro enterprise-class drive, which spins at 7200 rpm and offers data transfer rates of up to 260 MB/s. The drive is pre-formatted as exFAT, which allows for compatibility with both macOS and Windows systems. If you’re using the drive with only one operating system, you optimize the drive’s performance by reformatting it as NFTS for Windows or HFS+/APFS for macOS.
In addition to its warranty, this drive includes a five-year Rescue Data Recovery Services plan as well as a one-month membership to Adobe Creative Cloud All Apps plan.

1st class technologies. This type is more sturdy and reliable than an USB powered external disk which are not up to robust use.

My previous backup drive (Seagate) failed after only a couple of years (out of warranty, of course). LaCie received good reviews and has a good warranty. Will know more in a couple of years of use.

Pretty fast and feels super robust. I wish there where an option to block the light as it blinks pretty bright and it can be distracting. Alternatively everyone is going gaga for rgb….

I started out with LaCie over 20 years ago and stuck with them for a long time. A few years ago, I decided to try other brands, and now I’m back to LaCie and I don’t plan on trying other brands again.

AS TECHNOLOGY GROWS THE SPEED OF THE HARD DRIVE GETS FASTER. THE EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE YOU HAVE TODAY MAY BE WAY TO SLOW IN A FEW YEARS AND COMPATABILITY MY CHANGE SO YOU WILL HAVE TO TRANSFER YOUR DATA TO NEW EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE. MY OLDEST DRIVE STILL WORKS AS DO ALL MY LACIE DRIVES BUT THE TRANSFER TIME FROM THAT TB DRIVE TOOK HOURS TO TRANSFER BECAUSE THE TECHNOLOGY IS WAY FASTER TODAY BUT THE DRIVE IS RESTRICTED BY THE VERY OLD TECHNOLOGY THAT WAS USED WHEN I SAVED ALL THE PHOTOS WHEN IT WAS NEW. THIS DRIVE IS VERY FAST AND RUNS COOLER AND WITH LESS SOUND.

We use for backing up servers, in almost constant use. Haven’t had one fail yet!

The drive is good, but, the cable that comes with it is not. With the provided cable I could copy files at a maximum speed of 34 MB/s. I had to buy another USB-C cable and could copy files at almost the maximum speed of the drive, which is 260 MB/s. So, this drive either should come with a better cable or should be sold for $20.00 less
