Designed for photo, video, and audio production, graphic design, backup, and archiving, the 8TB 2big 2-Bay USB 3.1 Type-C RAID Array from LaCie has dual 3.5″ SATA drive bays, each of which is equipped with a 4TB enterprise-class hard drive, for a total storage capacity of 8TB. Compatible with both Windows and Mac, it supports hardware-controlled RAID 0, which provides improved performance, and RAID 1, which provides 1:1 data redundancy. For those who do not require a RAID, JBOD is also available. This 2big comes preformatted as HFS+ for Mac, configured as RAID 0, and connects to your host system using its 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C interface, which is also known as USB 3.1 or USB 3.2 Gen 2 with transfer speeds up to 440 MB/s. This RAID array may also be used with Thunderbolt 3 hosts and is cooled using its aluminum enclosure with improved heat dissipation, as well as a thermoregulated Noctua cooling fan. Included is a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C cable, a USB 3.0 Type-C to Type-A cable, an external power supply, and a limited 5-year warranty with data recovery services.

Just brought the drive home, literally brand new out of the box. Using the supplied AC power cord and US adapter. Drive won’t power on. No light, no sound, nothing. I guess it’s just a lemon from the factory. Beyond frustrating as I’ve been using LaCie products for years and never had an issue like this. Will be returning as soon as BH is open again. Wasted my morning picking this up and now my home backup is delayed and I can’t clear my shuttle drives. Huge waste of time.

If you need RAID this is a great product, in RAID configuration the transfer rate is slow BUT I use this more for backup on not data processing from the drives… IF you can justify the SSD (about 2x the price) this is by far the fastest and safest way to go….

While I was happy with the performance, capacity, and looks of this drive when I first bought it, that shine has all but completely worn off. The first issue I had was a complete failure of the drive. I was tasked with shipping it in for data recovery and replacement which took about a month to complete. Well, they managed to recover my data (great) but it took an incredibly long time (not great) and the refurbished replacement I received had physical damage in the way of some visible scrapes showing silver metal on an otherwise all black box (argh – are you kidding me!). Anyway, fast forward to the release of macOS Monterey and guess what – the drive will no longer go to sleep, randomly warns of improper ejection, won’t sync mirrored files properly, and support takes a painfully long time to respond. Beyond that, after jumping through all of tech support’s hoops, they have the nerve to say its probably Apple’s fault and direct me to them?! No. They need to update their firmware/software and work more closely with the biggest computer company that exists to make darn sure their $800 hard drive works – and works well. I do not recommend this, or any other of LaCie’s products, after this miserable experience. Thanks for the headache, LaCie…

I tried to set up the array for RAID 1 on Windows 11 using the supplied software but the setup failed. After spending some time with LaCie tech support, they advised me to send it back saying one of the disks was faulty. B&H quickly replaced it, but the replacement unit is having the same problem. The drive is visible to Computer Management but is unallocated thus not visible to Explorer. I opened a case with tech support and have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting…

This drive failed on me after five months of use. Completely lost everything and had to reformat the drive.

I got this HDD to replace my 5 year old WD Mybook pro. I replace HDD every 5 years and after doing my research this was the winner, I got the 16TB (two 8TB) and I use it on RAID 1 redundancy to protect my wedding photography work.
