Designed for students, travelers, photographers, and videographers, the 5TB Rugged Mini USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from LaCie features shock, drop, and pressure resistance, as well as a rubber sleeve for added protection. It can also withstand up to one ton of crush resistance, including being driven over by a car. Aside from its tough exterior, the Rugged Mini provides a storage capacity of 5TB and data transfers of up to 130 MB/s. It connects to your host Windows or Mac system using its USB 3.0 interface and includes both USB Type-C and USB Type-A cables.

I was so excited about this hard drive and love that it comes with the protective silicon case. But I quickly learned that if it is bumped or moved in the slightest it disconnects. I thought it was because the silicon case was blocking the port from making a tight connection, but I removed the case and have the same issue. It is so frustrating to work with and I’m so mad I wasted so much money.

I’ve never been a big fan of Seagate drives as I’ve had several of them crash on me over the years, particularly the consumer grade drives. I was unaware that Seagate purchased LaCie a couple of years ago. I’m hoping that this drive is an enterprise version or mil grade version hard drive installed in a LaCie case. Given the above caveats, The drive has performed well for the limited experience that I have with it.
