I have 3 of these hard drives, one in New York City, one in Michigan and a third one to transfer my data between these two locations. Having once witnessed the destruction of data when a laboratory burned up, I keep all my data in two separate locations. The rugged mini hard drive is superb – large data capacity and lightweight.

It’s nice having a drive that’s rugged and compact at the same time. It’s become a simple morning check for me – keys, phone, wallet, Rugged.. The drive goes everywhere with me, it’s the right size for me, I don’t carry much data around but lately a thumb drive has become too small.

I bought 2 of these drives for a small video shoot out of state. They fit into my messenger bag but didn’t weigh me down during travel or moving around onsite. The daily transfer of shot content was fast and easy, and saved a lot of time at the end of the day. The transfer to my editor’s system was equally as fast!

I love the small rugged style. I was looking to replace my 2tb WD My Passport drive w/Namd hard shell case and I needed something fairly rugged because this is the hard drive I carry everywhere with me. The drive itself is comparably small to what Seagate and WD offer. Drive seems plenty fast for my needs and I’ve had no issues so far. As far as rugged portable USB powered drives go, this is pretty much your only choice so I’m happy that the drive is so good. The software from LaCie is a different story. Unless you have a real need of some kind to use their security software, don’t. The LaCie software is a joke. I tried to see what they offered to patroon off a section for security, but I quickly realized that LaCie doesn’t have kind of instructions and I just opted to format and use MacOS disc utilities to encrypt the drive. I did notice on the LaCie website that they are now owned by Seagate so maybe they will improve their software soon.

Been buying and using Lacie units for +/_10 years and these Rugged Mini’s since they first appeared. They have made multiple trips to Africa, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, etc. and never-ever had a problem or failure in these. Worth every penny to back up your images while on the road and for stand alone backup at home.

You can’t go wrong with a LaCie Rugged External Hard Drive. We have purchased at least 5 of their various Rugged drives over the past 5 years and all of them are still functioning perfectly. This 5TB one is great for large storage. If you are looking for an external drive to work directly off of and need faster speed, I would suggest LaCie’s SSD drives, but these are the best combination of storage and protection I’ve found.

Bought it to give my Sony Vaio a chance at video editing while travelling. It works fairly well for straight cuts but still staggers occasionally. It was very easy to setup and gives the impression of being rugged.

I needed a reliable drive to back up my film projects for this semester. At first I was not sure which drive would fit the bill until I saw one of my professors using this exact drive. I took this to be a cue. So far, it has worked perfectly. On top of it all. It has the speed I need to use as a proper video drive.

first time using it for Travel. and I’m ready to order for back up my files.

When my girlfriend bought this drive for me, I was afraid it would not work (either easily or at all) with my new Mac. That turned out not to be the case, especially after I downloaded a Mac-specific USB 3.0 driver from LaCie, after which the data transfer speed between my Mac and the drive was noticeably better than that through my FireWire link!

I use this as my portable back up. It has been only a few weeks into this. Looks very solid. Small and looks very portable. The reason I bought this is because my previous external HD crashed just because of a small fall. I am hoping that this will live to its claim.

I have dropped this a couple times without having any damage to the drive. The LaCie rugged is definitely the way to go.

This is my second LaCie portable hard drive and they are both performing like thoroughbreds. My new mini (1TB) compliments its big brother (2TB) and pound for pound out performs it. Powering off of my laptops USB make this little dynamo as portable as it is powerful. It fits into a pocket and its design makes it rugged and dependable. Can’t say enough good about this product! I’m sure that I’m soon to have another.

I’ve had the hard drive for only a short time but it has performed very well thus far. I use it for photo storage and upload image files every 1 to 2 days, typically several gigabytes at a time. The drive plugs into my computer and draws its power through a USB 3.0 port. The draw appears to be minimal. The drive is also near silent in operation. I hear it on occasion, but generally it performs as intended with virtually no notice. The bright orange casing is a plus and makes misplacing it very unlikely. I suspect the casing, being something similar to silicone, will also provide an extra measure of protection in the case of dropping it from moderate heights. I’ve yet to discover any negatives.

Just like my previous hard drives the rugged mini is a great drive that travels. Compact and light I use this drive for traveling with my MacBook. Works great with the Apple format.

Great and reliable drive. Got it for extra back up storage. It comes with great optional software, which is great for that added security.

Using it as time machine. Have two of them. If it’s not saved in three places it’s not saved is my motto.
