Designed for students, travelers, photographers, and videographers, the 5TB Rugged Mini USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from LaCie features shock, drop, and pressure resistance, as well as a rubber sleeve for added protection. It can also withstand up to one ton of crush resistance, including being driven over by a car. Aside from its tough exterior, the Rugged Mini provides a storage capacity of 5TB and data transfers of up to 130 MB/s. It connects to your host Windows or Mac system using its USB 3.0 interface and includes both USB Type-C and USB Type-A cables.

I have been using the Lacie Rugged Portable Drives for many years to back-up files and take them along when I travel. This latest drive is noticeably smaller than previous versions… a tad shorter and narrower, and perhaps 35% thinner. This model also has a light indicating power and activity. No power adapter required, and this one doesn’t even have a port for one. Can’t comment on speed of USB 3 as I’m using with USB 2 devices. My only small complaint is the maximum size available is 1TB (about a year ago I purchased an older 1.5TB version, but it is no longer available, and is not even listed on the Lacie web site).

I bought the LaCie Rugged Mini to store my photo files and work between my home PC and my school Mac in Adobe Lightroom. The initial partition set up is easy(a slide ruler), but I am still not sure exactly how to use the thing. I am computer and software savvy, yet external hard drives (especially LaCie) elude me. Reviews indicate that LaCie is top of the line. The unit itself feels great in the hand, it is classy,strong aluminum and rubber. I would love an engraved ID option like on an ipod. But the interface should be more idiot proof. I will comment after I (hopefully)figure out exactly how to use it. ps Online manuals not much help. How to videos would be great!

As a designer and already got 2 to this products , i would like to said something really annoying me abut it . this is a very very good product, but they sell it as a strong one and he’s looks like , but definitely not . if you get a small pressure on the middle of the aluminium part , he is more fragile than a plastic one ! So just lying about it make me upset !!! you have a good product , do something nice ! you dont have to pretend its more solid ! just do it !

I use this to store images and after a year or so it stopped working. Seeing is how this is the only thing it’s supposed to do I have to give it a one. I’d like to give it a zero, but not an option. I’ve used many external hard drives and this is the first one I’ve ever have stop working.
