It was an easy and quick install. USB 3 is definately a plus on my pc. I then plugged it into my mac and it worked just fine too. It feels sturdy. Not as small as I thought it might be.

Just opened a ticket with Lacie and will update if this is resolved. I bought this drive to back-up my new MBP using time machine over the USB 3.0 port. Cannot install using Lacie installer because system is not compatible with non-PowerPC chipset???? You must be kidding. Also, every time I connected this drive to the USB 3.0 port my Retina MBP dropped my Wi-fi connection and all visible wi-fi networks disappeared. When I disconnect the Lacie drive all wi-fi networks reappeared and connection was restored. I reproduced this several times while filling out the service ticket to Lacie. This problem does not occur with USB 3.0 thumb drives or other USB 2.0 drives, just the Lacie.

Bought Lacie cause I read a lot of positive reviews about it. Took it with me upstate NY to film a retreat for the client. On the 2 day of the retreat, I transferred all information from SD cards to my new LaCie and checked everything before I went to sleep. Waking up in the morning, open videos to start editing and none of them play. I ejected the external hard drive and restarted my computer. Plug it in back and for some reason, I don’t see the icon of Lacie on the Desctop. I unplug it and plug it in back and nothing happens. What was more surprising is that I started hearing mechanical sounds inside the drive and they def don’t sound good. I never dropped it, never did anything to it. Right straight out of the box it stopped working. I didn’t buy a recovery plan, unfortunately so now I’m left with no video/photo information for the client to show. Recovery was offered from $500-$700 which is what I was supposed to get paid for at the retreat. Didn’t get paid for video services and wasted $80 on the external hard drive..

I have three of these to store my thousands of photos. It allows me to get the photos off the desktop. I have one LaCie for each category of photo. It’s perfect for my needs. Easy to set up and use. No drawbacks that I can see.

This hard drive works great for my needs. It has fast transfer speeds and is very rugged. No issues.

I love these! They really hold up well over time. I have one that must be 15 years old, and while I don’t use it, it is still alive and kicking! This is my third. I do feel like overtime, plugging and unplugging the cord can make it less sturdy which I wish they would improve on a bit. But I recently lost all my favorite photos on a different hard drive, and I will never not use a LaCie hard drive again. They are reliable and really can withstand travel demands.

I haven’t used mine for very long yet but my friend recommended it to me because of it’s durability, after having my last external die on me I have a good feeling about this one.

Im using this to back up my MacBook Pro and it works like a charm. So quick and sturdy.
Christa Kreiger (verified owner) –
I bought this as my working drive. It’s really fast and has all the space that I could ask for .

simple to use, does exactly what I want as an external drive for back up; rugged (and compact exterior, roomy interior) so no worries about carting it around – I would buy this again.

I intend to use this portable drive to back up and store my photo files when I am traveling. So far I have only done limited testing. The device is easy to install and the user interface is intuitive enough. I load the files from my computer and it transfers about 1GB/minute with the supplied USB3 cable. The orange color padding make this gadget hard to miss. I have no intention to do the drop test on purpose to see whether it is rugged as it advertises. Time will tell when it is really dropped. I had a Western Digital Passport which was sent back for replacement because my PC can no longer recognize it. LaCie seems to have a better designed product. If I don’t come back in three months to modify this review, then it stands as good as it is. If anything not smooth, I will come back to revise the review.

I use these for work when I need to ship footage to an editor or producer. They’re fast and cheap.

Im a producer, and i need good, resistant, easy to carry hard drives to stock Full HD and 4K videos. This Lacie Hard Drive is absolutely fantastic, Is lightweight, sturdy, easy to use, and allows me to store what I need, the transfer time is quite fast. So far is the best option.

Works like it’s supposed to. Very durable. Not super fast, but it’s only a 5400RPM drive, so it’s about what I expected.
Verdie Keebler (verified owner) –
Great hard drive, durable, portable and very efficient. 100% recommend.
Kurtis Fritsch (verified owner) –
Rugged and reliable. The editors love them and so do I.
Madison Connelly (verified owner) –
These are the only portable HD’s I buy. I hope the new company owner keeps up the high standard.
