This hard drive is slightly smaller than the last generation of Rugged portables. It also has higher capacity than the last ruggeds I purchased. I use this hard drive as the dedicated TIME MACHING BACKUP for my MacBook Pro.

I’ve wanted a ruggedized LaCie hard drive for storage of my most important archives for a long time. The wait meant I could get 5TB for the price I once would have paid for 1 or 2TB (back when 5TB wasn’t available). My one hitch was finding out that my computer wouldn’t communicate with this drive when connected to a USB 3.0 hub, but a Chat with B&H (thanks, guys!) cleared this up and it works just as intended when connected directly to a port on the PC. One thing to check for when placing your order is that this drive is available with either a USB mini-3.0 port or USB-C. Make certain you select the one you want.

The drive is very compact, well designed and fast. The build quality is awesome. The capacity meets my needs. And it works perfectly with USB 3.0. The drive is also quite light, so it’s easy to carry around. Strongly recommend!

Used for storing stills and video for backup purposes. It’s small. rugged and convenient to use. I’ve only had it for a short time, but no problems so far.

After only a couple of months of normal use, the connection for the cable broke and made the harddrive unusable. I had a hard time recovering the data. Not sure if this is a common problem but for me this product was definitely a waste of money.

I’ve purchased LaCie’s in the past and this drive is no different. Compact, durable and, so far, very reliable. I will purchase another one soon. My only wish is that. LaCie’s would have more HDs that run at 7200 rpm as opposed to 5400 rpm so I could fully edit on them but I’ve edited a few short pieces and it works fine.

I bought this unit for traveling back & forth to a photo class because of its durability. It is easier to handle than the hard plastic type of drives I own and in case I drop it Im sure it will be ok.

Ive had this thing for almost a month now. It looks great and functions great, plus its affordable. I edit videos straight from it and It seems to be as fast as my macbook pro’s internal harddrive.

we are using these drives on location to backup our camera footage.

Love that it came with two kinds of cords.
Efrain Mayer (verified owner) –
Easy to use, small and compact, we’ll see if it can stand up to me. The cord is overly long, the end of the cord that plugs into the drive is a bit awkward to get in and doesn’t stay well, would be nice if there was a cover for the drive to cord port so than nothing could get in there – big weak spot.

I just got this and I like the feel of it in my hands. It doesn’t feel fragile or slippery. It feels like the name says “rugged”. The initial backup was pretty decent time, and so far I am happy. I haven’t dropped it or accidentally unplugged it and I hope it won’t ever happen but it feels more reliable than the WD my passport i recently purchased.

Seems well made and extra padding/ protection can’t hurt

Bought this recently to replace a sea gate that started having connection issues. Was super easy to plug in and use right out of the box. Connection port is so much sturdier. Will definitely be buying more!
