Designed for students, travelers, photographers, and videographers, the 5TB Rugged Mini USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from LaCie features shock, drop, and pressure resistance, as well as a rubber sleeve for added protection. It can also withstand up to one ton of crush resistance, including being driven over by a car. Aside from its tough exterior, the Rugged Mini provides a storage capacity of 5TB and data transfers of up to 130 MB/s. It connects to your host Windows or Mac system using its USB 3.0 interface and includes both USB Type-C and USB Type-A cables.

Received this product last month and before I had the opportunity to install it, it took a dive down a concrete and steel staircase at my college. Needless to say standing there looking down on a brand new hard drive and just wondering if it was going to live up to its name. It really bounced on the five concrete stair trends until it hit the landing below me. Needless to say it worked like a charm, plugged it in and it was an effortless installation. I am using it for both platforms and have finally got a handle on keep all my photos and data backup.

I ordered the Lacie 1TB to save any and all projects on a hard drive, other than my computer. I don’t trust I Cloud or any online storage. The Lacie offers a more secure means of saving any photo or video projects you may have. I highly recommend them.

When I was looking for an external hd I knew I needed a rugged one. I do a lot of out door work in and out of trucks. First day of use I dropped it out of a semi not knowing it I left on a test drive. I returned to it sitting in a parking lot where it had clearly been run over not even and scratch on it. I am impressed.

I love lacie products in general and I wanted the larger portable drive. However it transfers data very slowly and it seems to crash a lot. Not sure if it is my particular drive or the product itself. Never had this problem with any other lacie drives.

I have accidentally done everything you’re not supposed to do with a hard drive and it is still working. In the 3 weeks I have had it, I have dropped it, split olive oil on it from my lunch, had multiple dogs step on it, and unplugged it without safely ejecting. It still works and I have not lost any data.

This is a great drive!!!! 7200 rpm on an external drive is what is needed for production work. Specifically purchased this for keeping sounds and sample on to take stress off the main drive, when accessing sounds and samples. Perfect for recording studio and music production work. Set up was easy, not plug and play, but instructions and on screen prompts were clear and the setup options were easily understandable. And it’s portable. Seems quite rugged, as the name implies. Definitely would purchase this drive again.

Great and lightweight hard drive – excellent for use on location for photography and video shoots. Easy set up and relatively fast transfer. Not the most reliable or knock-resistant drive. Thunderbolt connection not recognized by Mac computers, which is problematic.

Like anything in life, you get what you pay for. LaCie hard drives tend to be a bit more expensive but they are reliable and consistent. Even though the hard drive is protected with a rubber case, I would recommend buying a hard case to store the hard drive + cord in.
