Designed for students, travelers, photographers, and videographers, the 5TB Rugged Mini USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from LaCie features shock, drop, and pressure resistance, as well as a rubber sleeve for added protection. It can also withstand up to one ton of crush resistance, including being driven over by a car. Aside from its tough exterior, the Rugged Mini provides a storage capacity of 5TB and data transfers of up to 130 MB/s. It connects to your host Windows or Mac system using its USB 3.0 interface and includes both USB Type-C and USB Type-A cables.

It’s very handy. I am a MFA student and use this hard drive for my exercises. I didn’t have any trouble while editing. I wish Lacie offers 1tb or 2tb with 7200 rpm for this model, but if 500gb is enough for you, I would definitely recommend this.

I had multiple people recommend this hard drive to me but it has given me nothing but trouble. It’s very slow to load, takes forever to register on my computer and occasionally crashes. I do not recommend this product to anyone!

These are solid and well-made. Easy to set up – plug and play on iMac. I switched to LaCie from using another brand for over 10 years because the other maker just became more and more complicated and less and less reliable.

I bought two of these at the same time. The cable on one quick working but thankfully I had an extra from the other. Not long after the cable got frayed (picture attached). I’m a photography professor and my students bought this drive and had similar issues, very disappointing. These drives have both been unreliable. I’m shocked as I thought this was a good brand. They loose connection and in short, I’m having to buy two more back up drives because these are having issues connecting and the cables keep going bad.

As fast with USB 3.0 as the earlier smaller LaCie Thunderbolts I have. Only had them a short time but I expect they will as tough as my older globe trotting 1TB laCie rugged thunderbolt drives.
