Designed for students, travelers, photographers, and videographers, the 5TB Rugged Mini USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from LaCie features shock, drop, and pressure resistance, as well as a rubber sleeve for added protection. It can also withstand up to one ton of crush resistance, including being driven over by a car. Aside from its tough exterior, the Rugged Mini provides a storage capacity of 5TB and data transfers of up to 130 MB/s. It connects to your host Windows or Mac system using its USB 3.0 interface and includes both USB Type-C and USB Type-A cables.

It’s small and portable, extremely durable, pretty good price. Maybe a bit much bloatware (is it considered bloatware?) on it already- I mean, I don’t need any software on my external hard drives. But no complaints.

I’ve been using this drive for a little while now and it’s extreemel fast! The difference I’ve experienced so far switching from a 5400rpm FireWire 800 drive to this has been wild. Data transfer and editing speeds are amazingly fast.

Lacie drives are all around a fantastic product. I purchased this drive specifically because of the rubber casing around it, which has served me very well since this drive travels with me a LOT. Using this drive for footage and project storage, I’m giving a solid 4 stars because of the durability, solid connections from drive to computer (so, basically the cable), and it’s reliability. I baby it, of course, because it’s not solid state. And because of that, the speed at which I edit the footage suffers somewhat because of the drive speed itself – 5400 rpms. I really need an affordable drive like this to be 7200 rpms, and thus, a one star subtraction. It’s too bad there aren’t half-stars. I’d give it a 4.5 if I could.

The drive is fine, but the USB-C cable that came with it will not insert all the way into my laptop. I have requested a replacement. This happened on another drive ordered from BH earlier this year. Seems there is a quality control problem with these cables, which is my first experience of such troubles with BH.

Fast and efficient while backing up images from my laptop while on my first real photography trip–to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. i had a fantastic trip and was happy to have a device that I felt comfortable relying on for back-up and storage. The was also a pretty fast transfer of 3000 images back to my home computer. It was reliable and is built to last. Very sturdy, but fortunately I didn’t have to test the ruggedness of the device. No serious mishaps with my equipment on this trip.
