Designed for students, travelers, photographers, and videographers, the 5TB Rugged Mini USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from LaCie features shock, drop, and pressure resistance, as well as a rubber sleeve for added protection. It can also withstand up to one ton of crush resistance, including being driven over by a car. Aside from its tough exterior, the Rugged Mini provides a storage capacity of 5TB and data transfers of up to 130 MB/s. It connects to your host Windows or Mac system using its USB 3.0 interface and includes both USB Type-C and USB Type-A cables.

This is the best portable external hard drive I have owned. I use it to backup my travel and personal work and have never had an issue. I had the Seagate flex drive and it turns off randomly, which never happens with the Lacie Rugged. In 30 seconds I format the drive for my Mac and PC. In conclusion, just buy it, you won’t regret it!

I bought this to store my photos and videos because the HD in my computer was full. The Lacie HD easily downloaded all my photos and videos quickly and there is room to spare. I also own an older 1TB Lacie HD and it works great as well.

I had bought one of these recently and needed more archival backup capacity, so I bought another. The shipper originally delivered it to the wrong address, which is not B&H’s fault, but as common as it is for packages left outside of a residence and then stolen, I think a little more security would be a good idea.

I’m a professional photographer from Ontario, Canada. I use this drive as a mobile backup for my original files before turning them into live work and editing them. The LaCie Rugged Mini is a reliable, great way to achieve that. Bus Powered, and utilizing USB 3.0 on the drive side, its a fast, easy and rugged way to transport large amounts of files. Definitely a worthwhile buy for these reasons alone. I had some difficulty with the compatibility of their setup assistant on my Macbook Pro. I found the customer support utility to be easy, but a little tedious to use. I would prefer to have a number to call, or have the compatibility issue resolved altogether, however LaCie was very quick to get my problem solved in a very easy, interactive way.

The file transfer speeds for me were so maddeningly fast compared to my old Western Digital external hard drive, and the build quality is really something. I am a photographer/artist and use my mini Lacies nearly everyday to store things I’m working on such as photos, scans or documents. They haven’t let me down yet! The read/write speed is fast and I don’t have any problems with lag time when transferring Raw files from my camera, scanning film at high resolutions or just selecting edits. They do tend to get a little hot while in use for long periods, but no more than I’ve noticed from other hard drives.These little hard drives are really portable and built like tanks. I throw mine in my camera bag while traveling or leave them on my desk at home and they take up no space at all.
