Designed for students, travelers, photographers, and videographers, the 5TB Rugged Mini USB 3.0 External Hard Drive from LaCie features shock, drop, and pressure resistance, as well as a rubber sleeve for added protection. It can also withstand up to one ton of crush resistance, including being driven over by a car. Aside from its tough exterior, the Rugged Mini provides a storage capacity of 5TB and data transfers of up to 130 MB/s. It connects to your host Windows or Mac system using its USB 3.0 interface and includes both USB Type-C and USB Type-A cables.

I like this hard drive mainly because it’s the only drive that I can use that’s large enough to edit a lot of footage off of. I am a bigger fan of the GTech drives but they unfortunately don’t have a 2TB option. This is a great alternative though. It feels sturdy and small enough to be very portable!

I use Lacie Rugged drives for outdoor fieldwork in the Rocky Mountain region, in every season. I also send them to clients when I have a large number of images. They always work – fast. These are the only external drives I’ll use in the field.

Manual configuration required if you have OS X Lion as Lacie’s configuration software does not work with the new OS. Otherwise, a fast and rugged drive. A bit on the pricey side.

Love it. Works very well, small, simple, clean design. The rubber band is great against drops and to make sure it doesn’t slip out of your hand. The plug isn’t a mini USB though like some other hard drives, it uses it’s own cable.

haven’t had it long enough to test its travel worthiness, but I’ve seen this same HD in a number of bags owned by people who travel hard and compute even harder, so I think it will be just fine.
