I wouldn’t bother writing this review if I wasn’t impressed. I purchased this drive about half a year ago. I use it to backup my work when I travel, and it’s been doing its job remarkably well. The drive is fast, rugged, and very portable. It doesn’t require a separate power supply. I connect it to my laptop with a USB cable, and it draws power directly from the port. It runs cool, and very quiet.

The lacie 5tb external drive is very compact and leaves plenty of room on your desk .Very easy to install and priced right for this rugged little jewel.

The unit itself is exactly what I expected from LaCie – it’s built well and it works just the way it is supposed to. It comes with a standard USB 3.0 micro-B cable connector which may look proprietary to those unfamiliar with the new standards. My only negative is the included Genie backup software which, as configured, is almost unusable. At every attempt to change the backup options you are told that the option you want is only available as an upgrade. I think that this reflects poorly on LaCie.

I have been using LaCie Rugged drives for many years now and they have never given me problems or failed. I do wish this drive was a little slimmer, but as long as it holds up like the others, all will be good.

I use g drives and LaCie exclusively now. Knock on wood never had an issue. They’ve worked great and stand up to the drop test.

My first external hard drive was by another manufacturer. It was ok but rather large so after reviewing a number of other external drives I looked into the LaCie. It was small/compact and had good reviews so I purchased my first LaCie. It functioned perfectly – no problems. About the same time I decided to purchase a new computer the LaCie let me know it was full. Since the first one performed to my satisfaction purchasing a second was a no brainer. I actually haven’t had to use it yet, but I expect it to perform as well as the first one.

I haven’t had issues with the drive itself. It seems to be working fine so far, however the cable it came with is AWFUL. It will disconnect at the drop of a hat! And we all know that a Hard Drive should not be disconnected without ejecting first. If I so much as nudge my laptop, or pick up the hard drive and put it somewhere else on my desk, I’ll see the warning pop op on my screen Disk removed without ejecting! It’s so frustrating and I don’t trust my data to be safe on this drive because of that. The USB-C end of the cable doesn’t fit all the way into the slot and that’s why, it’s loose and wiggly. It’s a faulty component. I’ll have to get a new one and that’s not cool. The old Transcend hard drive I had before was like steel. I’ve picked up my laptop while forgetting it was plugged in and it never even fell out or disconnected.

I work with loads of files. Of course I regularly do backups as losing a document can be a real nightmare. That’s what I bought this portable hard drive for. It’s very fast and has lots of storage space. Anti-shock protection makes the drive very reliable. The backup software is very useful. The drive works flawlessly.

This is my third LaCie Rugged Mini with the first being 1TB, the second 2TB and this 5TB. They all work as desired and I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for an affordable drive. I do a lot of work in the field for landscape photography where the rugged protection is vital.

Super duper sturdy. We bought this ahead of an international move, and I think it’s just the thing. It is a little heavier than I expected, but we won’t have to pack it in tissue paper the way you might with some. The transfer speeds seem good, with the caveat that I’ve only had it for a week. So far, transferring video and audio files has been a cinch.

I just purchased the LaCie 1TB Rugged Mini Portable Hard Drive to add to my collection of LaCie rugged drives. I’m a musician and hobbyist photographer. I travel on a regular basis, and those rubber baby buggy bumpers have saved me any number of times. I always take 2 of the rugged drives with me. One has my essential business, photo and music files and the other serves as a back-up. I don’t leave home without them.

Purchased two of these and both are working well in my video studio. Able to partition with Mac software and use for system back-up as well as portable drive for video files. Limitations – only USB and cable is proprietary to LaCie. Small, light-weight and well constructed.
