Love Lacie hard drives. Never had one fail… KNOCK ON WOOD! Feel extra protected with the rugged orange rubber cover

I use this drive to offload P2 media in the field. As with my other Rugged Minis it is durable and compact. I was hoping that the USB 3.0 would work with my Sonnet USB 3.0 expansion card but I couldn’t get the drive to mount via USB 3.0. Works great with USB 2.0 though.

The Lacie portable hard drive is easy to setup. You just plug it in to your computer and follow the easy steps. The hard drive has an excellent built quality. I’m very impressed with it.

Don’t waste your money on lesser products. In my opinion this hard drive is the best all around rugged unit and will serve you will!

I use this to transfer video camera cards onto during long shoot days and as a shuttle drive for large video files. Simple, compact and works well.

I use this as my Lightroom catalogue and main image storage drive. I start my workflow by loading images to my MacBook Pro 15 inch. I keep them there while I organize and edit. When I’m done I offload to the LaCie drive to free up space. The new 4tb drive replaced my 2tb LaCie rugged mini. I ran out of space. I have nearly 100,000 images. Access speed to images on the drive is fast, but I wouldn’t want to do all my work off the drive. Exporting images from the drive through Lightroom works great! 460 images (1.43gb) took about 25 minutes. Easy to transport. This drive is slightly larger and heavier than the 2tb. The only thing I don’t like about the LaCie is the detachable USB3 cable. Don’t transport the drive with the cable inserted. It can bend the connector inside the drive housing. Really like the way they incorporated the thunderbolt cable on that version of the drive, wish they would do the same for the USB DRIVE. The thunderbolt version costs too much IMO, so I’ll deal with USB.

I use the product to back up all my data, music and files on my Mac Book Pro and it integrates into the OS X software flawlessly. The quality of the product is very high compared to other hard drives I have purchased that have conked out within a few months! The partition features are very useful for me as I use both a mac and PC and you can create separate partitions as well as secure partitions to store private data. (It would be nice to have some different color skins instead of the standard orange.) If you want a good value but stylish and portable external disk, with a good amount of space and durability the rugged is your best bet.

Huge storage for low cost. Seems rugged, but I haven’t tried dropping it or anything, of course. Only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because the backup software it comes with (genie timeline) is sort of annoying, in that it has no manual override. It’s always-on, can’t be exited, and complains if you boot up the computer without the drive plugged in. In hindsight, I probably would have used different backup software. Oh, well.

Well built and everything, it is just that that the transfer speed is too slow, takes forever to transfer your files

it works well. buy 2!

A very well designed harddrive. Plenty of cushion from falls both inside and out. Buy as many as you can afford

I have never had a problem with a Lacie product except this model. The first mini portable HD I bought failed after 6 months. I sent it into Lacie and they shipped me a replacement. The new one failed after about 4 months. It was nice that it was replaced without too much hassle, but when it’s your backup drive you hate to know it could go at anytime. I think I only got a replacement bc it was within a year of my purchase. If it had been over a year I’d probably not be happy at all. I am on my third drive and so far so good (its only been 2 months).

Need better instructions on formatting. Better yet why not ask how to be used and format before shipping.

Have used as a backup and flash drive to carry around with me. It has been easy to use so far. Only pain was that the setup software did not work for my generation of Macbook so I had to do it myself. It has been reliable to this point.

I wanted a second backup for my Mac, to use just for photos. Seems to be working well!

I am using the LaCie Rugged mini hard drive for several purposes: backing up my computer; storing large data sets off of my computer’s hard drive; and secure password protected storage for sensitive information. I was attracted to this product by its compactness and ruggedness since I occasionally have to travel to extreme environments and want something that I do not have to worry about, or to make space for. I have only had it for a short time and have not put it to any rugged tests, but am confident from what I have seen so far that it will do the job. I also appreciated the ancillary software that came with it, since these programs will help me achieve my goals with no additional expense. Installation and configuration were a breeze.
