Small but does what I need it to do. Very accurate.

I had some indoor maintenance jobs and a few outdoor projects in mind when I ordered the Disto D1. When I received it I compared measurements around the house against my tape measure and was impressed with how well they agreed. I still trust the tape measure more when the fit has to be very tight, but in most cases the measurement was reliably precise, and it was a quick way to make multiple measurements when trying to estimate the quantity of lumber and other materials needed. For my outside projects I found it to be less useful. For distances of more than about 15′ it was often difficult to see where the laser was hitting, though pointing the beam at the ground and slowly raising it to the target point sometimes helped (provided the target object was adequately shaded). It was almost impossible to hold the beam steady while applying enough pressure on the DIST button to take the measurement (definitely required two hands), which meant the beam often strayed from the target point. This often required multiple attempts to get the measurement off the intended object. This seems to serve best where the base of the DISTO can be butted up against something solid and the thing you’re measuring to is not too brightly lighted.

Love it

This is great for measuring small to medium projects. It is much easier and neater to send dimensions to my phone than handling plans in the field.

measuring long distance will be difficult. Any hand shaking will have problem to focus. No add or minus function.
