Originally the E14 and E15 had 8GB hard soldered memory and one could add a module to increase the Ram. With this computer there is only the 8GB module so buying a 16GB one gets you 16GB in total. Adding the memory requires removing the entire back and when you see how it is done you will have second thoughts about adding or changing anything with this laptop. I have bought Thinkpad laptops for more than 20 years and while some aspects have improved, others like this kludgy case setup have cut corners to make manufacturing faster and easier at the expense of the customer. Lenovo even shortened the power cord to only 3 feet to save a few pennies.

Over the specifications and implementation by Lenovo is excellent and I chose this over HP laptops (Apple and Dell are not worth considering). Most of the Lenovo Thinkpads have two slots for having two Ram modules or they will have 8GB hard soldered onto the motherboard and a single slot for adding RAM. But not this model which has only the single slot. I bought a 16GB module to replace the factory supplied 8GB which effectively added $150 to gain 8GB of RAM capacity. The other gotcha is that Lenovo starts the warranty period based on when the computer leaves their factory and not when the customer actually buys it. With this laptop purchase the end result was that one the day I received it from B&H the warranty period was only 10 months.

This laptop is an excellent choice for price and value. We supply several customers with laptops as part of our MSP program and they love the Thinkpads.
