The ThinkPad UltraSlim USB DVD Burner from Lenovo is a small form factor external portable DVD and CD recordable drive that can be attached to a notebook with a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port. It conforms with standard specifications for the following types of media CD-R, CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-R (dual-layer recording), DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+R(dual-layer recording), and DVD+RW. It offers a 0.75MB memory buffer underrun protection for reliable CD and DVD media recording. The burner includes PowerDVD for capturing, editing, and creating your own videos and PowerDVD software for playback DVD videos.

I can’t believe how a DVD Burner is so compact. Besides looking cool, that little guy has a lot of functionality. USB connectivity is great with 2 USB types available. Kudos to Lenovo.

The drive is responsive, it’s very convenient to have a USB cable attached directly to the drive for easy portability, and there’s an extension cord in the box in case you need extra length for a cord. It seems quite well constructed, and it is nice to have a matching drive for my ThinkPad.

I’m not aware of any laptops coming with cd-dvd drives anymore, so this is a necessary backup. It’s slim, sleek, and will mostly sit in a drawer-but I’m glad to have it because the Lenovo data transfer app failed to transfer all my old files from my old Lenovo ThinkPad.

I thought going with a DVD player that Lenovo put its name to that I would have a reliable device, however it is very noisy. It vibrates a lot, so need to pinch it in order to quiet it. It also did not read some DVRs that I know work fine. I replaced it with one I ordered online from elsewhere so cannot even tell if you if it has ever worked.
