The ThinkPad UltraSlim USB DVD Burner from Lenovo is a small form factor external portable DVD and CD recordable drive that can be attached to a notebook with a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port. It conforms with standard specifications for the following types of media CD-R, CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-R (dual-layer recording), DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+R(dual-layer recording), and DVD+RW. It offers a 0.75MB memory buffer underrun protection for reliable CD and DVD media recording. The burner includes PowerDVD for capturing, editing, and creating your own videos and PowerDVD software for playback DVD videos.

I use this as an DVD burner with my 2010 MacBook Pro. The internal DVD stopped working. I soon will have to upgrade my laptop. I wanted a drive that would work both with my current Macbook and with a new one. The new Mac external drive won’t work with my older Mac.

Seems a bit outdated but it works. I had a difficult time figuring how to set it up, there was no install map, but gosh darn it, I got it, ;/ I was able to play a dvd, haven’t tried anything else yet. You need two usb ports for it, so with my new Lenovo comp, I have to pull my mouse usb. That did not make me happy. That’s what I get for not really paying attention, should have many usb ports in a computer. Maybe I’ll look for a usb extender. I’m not much for the mouse / touch pad area. I would say look for something without needing two ports, maybe created in the last couple years. Tried to register it also, cannot find the numbers and it won’t detect when hooked up. Frustrating – I don’t want to make a call to complete that.

Finding support information or downloads is almost impossible! Serious troubles when trying to burn data on a CD-R and instability. It seems to work fine with the DVD-R (read+write) Quite impractical when it needs 2 USB ports.

My old laptop was a Thinkpad, my husband has a Thinkad, and the new one I just purchased is a Thinkpad. They have all been trouble free. I like the clarity of the screens. The newest laptop did not have a CD/DVD. That makes it lighter in weight, but I did purchase the external drive to use. I recommended Lenovo to a friend who just made a purchase. I have been pleased with the quality and performance.

I use both MacOS and Windows10 on 2 separate machines. I wanted a drive which would read and write DVDs and CDs on both and switching from one to the other is so easy with this device. I had one which sort of worked but not very well so this upgrade was well worth it !!
