The ThinkPad UltraSlim USB DVD Burner from Lenovo is a small form factor external portable DVD and CD recordable drive that can be attached to a notebook with a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port. It conforms with standard specifications for the following types of media CD-R, CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-R (dual-layer recording), DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+R(dual-layer recording), and DVD+RW. It offers a 0.75MB memory buffer underrun protection for reliable CD and DVD media recording. The burner includes PowerDVD for capturing, editing, and creating your own videos and PowerDVD software for playback DVD videos.

Plain and simple, it works! If you’re looking at this, you must want the Lenovo brand, the slim size, or both. If those are your priorities, it’s a good buy. The included software (disc) allows great flexibility. The cord could be a little longer, but it’s sized to self contain in the back of the drive. There is a usable extension in the box. (It’s part of the double plug that you may have to use if you only have USB 2.0) The tray doesn’t feel super sturdy, but if you’re buying slim, you just understand that sacrifices need to be made. Handle responsibly and you’ll be fine. I like it and I’d buy it again.

The software that comes with the burner is awful – and after considerable time & effort I ended up with good audio and only a green screen for audio. So I ditched the crap that came with the burner and installed free VLC media player. Now everything works well and my movies can be seen. The DVD burner itself is fine once you get different software to use with it.

Works well right now but feels cheaply made. All my previous ThinkPads had a high quality built-in DVD burner as standard hardware, but none of the new laptops have DVD burners including my new ThinkPad P17, which made my only choice to buy this cheap external drive.

This is a very nice dvd/cd, writer, player. It is really slim, the cable has it own little spot to fold back in to so u dont have to worry about wrapping it up and putting it somewhere or for getting a cable because it always there. It does its job very well.

Maybe there was another way, but figured this could also be handy to update my music collection that still needs transfering. The USB tucks away neatly by design, ready for the death of streaming now. Should take off a star to not have had the option to install it during purchase configuration.
