This appears to be the retail version of the super terrible WH16NS40 drive of which I had _two_ that did not work. They would overheat after a couple of burns and stop reading disks altogether. After a cool down, they would start working again (sort of). The _REAL_ BH16NS40 is a different drive and it looks different. It is bulletproof. The front tray has only the LG logo on it. The MDisc and Bluray logos are on the drive. You can see this on the LG website. I don’t fault B&H here. Two other online retailers and a brick&mortar show a picture of the real drive and ship you the one I got. All of them have been taken (?) by LG. Since LG has elected to be completely dishonest about this (no surprise there), I will not buy any of their products anymore.

I wanted to add an extra DVD and add Blu-ray capability to my HP Pavilion Elite desktop computer. The LG was priced well and I have several other LG products at home and like them a great deal. Installation was far easier then expected. Removing side and front covers was the matter of one thump screw and the case was open. Remove the disposable covering plate on the secondary DVD space and the LG simply slid into the slot. HP uses a pin system that secures the DVD so I didn’t even need the included screws. The provided extensions for power and SATA data cable hooked up easily and quickly. Closed up the case, installed the included Cyberlink software and I was watching a Blu-ray disk within seconds. The drive has been in heavy use now for about a week and could not be happier. The B&H price was easily the best of all the stores I checked and all in all a great buy.

Direct replacement for an old failed DVD drive. Newer technology, faster and quieter. Installation was a breeze and everything functioned flawlessly for me. Outstanding product.

This ” Blu-Ray” drive states the it is M-Disc compatible! On the front of the drive there is an M-Disc logo! What it doesn’t say is that it only supports M-Disc DVDs.Not M-Disc Blu Ray discs!! Why on earth would you make a drive like this? This has been a horrible experience! Now I have to take my computer apart again and make another trip to the store!!! I certainly will not buy an LG drive!!

I have actually owned three of this exact same model and every one of them has failed in the very same way. (Luckily I purchased extended warranties) They last for a while. One died in three months. The second at 1 year and the third died on me today 3-15-20 after 14 months of service. The (blue light) laser that reads the Blu-ray discs simply fails and the drive will no longer read or write Blu-ray discs. The red laser may still work for DVDs and CDs, but that is a separate laser that continues to work after the blue light laser fails. I do not recommend these LG drives, and LG has never responded to my complaints about this problem.

My 2nd one and like before, they all go bad after one year. I like LG, but I think they have drop the quality. I use only Blue ray, well this one when bad and only reads CD and DVDs but can work with any Blue Ray, make look for another brand.

Have used this to backup my bought Blu-ray disc and CDs. With MakeMKV I can rip my Blu-ray discs in about 20 minutes and with a 33 GB output file. The drive is very quiet in operation and seems to work well. I’ve not actually burned any discs with it yet, but will start backing up my photos at some point, and it’s good to know that the M discs should last longer than standard Blu-rays.

Blue ray player wouldn’t play new blue ray disks, looked on LG site was advised to update the firmware, followed the instructions to the letter, got confirmation that it was successful. Rebooted my machine now the drive doesn’t recognise any disks at all.
