Description
The silver GP65NS60 Portable USB External DVD Burner and Drive from LG allows you to read and write on DVDs and CDs with your computer. This drive connects to your Windows or Mac computer via USB. It features 8x DVD and 24x CD read and write speeds. To offer a better movie experience while watching a DVD, this drive provides Silent Play technology, which automatically adjusts the read speed to reduce its noise level. In addition, this drive supports TV connectivity with optional hardware. It also has Jamless Play so you can watch videos continuously by skipping over erroneous data or damaged areas of the disc that may stop your video. Furthermore, this drive can use M-Discs (DVD+R SL only), which provides data protection by using a patented rock-like recording surface instead of organic dye to etch your data onto a disc. Along with the drive are software programs that include Power2Go, PowerBackup, YouCam, LabelPrint, and Norton Internet Security (60 days).

This drive is surprisingly compact – the only downside to that is that the top seems slightly flimsy if pressing on it while pushing the disc tray in. The drive is quiet and works just fine.

I’ve used this burner/player to burn a DVD and play two DVD movies. The burner worked well, though a bit slow. One of the movie DVD was defective and stopped after about fifteen(15) minutes. The other played well. I tried the defective DVD on a desktop burner; with a few minor skips, it played. I assume it is the nature of the portable player – nature of the beast – that it would not play the defective movie DVD. May be stability or operation?

I’m using this device only for infrequent importing of music CDs so I can’t comment on disc writing performance. Works fine with an M1 MBP running macOS 12.3.1 via an Apple USB-C to USB-A adapter.

The drive worked flawlessly in all my Linux systems, including the crankiest, Scientific Linux, an RHEL derivative. And Windows, too, of course. The price was very good too, but best of all was the shipping. DHL, which transferred to U.S. Post Office, the most convenient, safest and most private of all options, for the last leg. NOT UPS!! Yay!

It is described as 2.0 USB and someone mentioned that the software might not be compatible with W-10 but I had no problem loading and using the unit. I have only used it for loading some programs from Nikon, Canon and have not tried to write on a CD/DVD disk. I have faith that it will work though.

I bought this DVD Writer from Amazon on February 24, 2018. When I got it, I plugged it in and tested it. It read a CD and it wrote a CD with no issues. I put it into a drawer and it just sat there for the past year and a half. Today I took it out to use it and it does not work. I plug it in and nothing happens. I tried it on 2 Desktops and 2 Laptops. Very disappointed in the quality of this product.
