The silver GP65NS60 Portable USB External DVD Burner and Drive from LG allows you to read and write on DVDs and CDs with your computer. This drive connects to your Windows or Mac computer via USB. It features 8x DVD and 24x CD read and write speeds. To offer a better movie experience while watching a DVD, this drive provides Silent Play technology, which automatically adjusts the read speed to reduce its noise level. In addition, this drive supports TV connectivity with optional hardware. It also has Jamless Play so you can watch videos continuously by skipping over erroneous data or damaged areas of the disc that may stop your video. Furthermore, this drive can use M-Discs (DVD+R SL only), which provides data protection by using a patented rock-like recording surface instead of organic dye to etch your data onto a disc. Along with the drive are software programs that include Power2Go, PowerBackup, YouCam, LabelPrint, and Norton Internet Security (60 days).

plug an play. works great

It does what it is supposed to do, very thin and I ripped about 55 disks and had no problems what so ever. Definitely worth the money.

With laptops no longer including disk drives this was required for me. Was fairly inexpensive and works well.

Bought to use with a new 27 5K iMac also purchased from B & H. Less than half the price of the Apple Super Drive. Plugged in via USB and it worked flawlessly. Finish is slightly different than iMac but I don’t leave out on desk when not in use. I am very satisfied with this product.

great price, fast and works with my MAC, fast shipping

Bought this for one of the newer iMacs that doesnt come with an internal optical drive. Seems to work fine for the casual user who needs to play a CD or DVD, or read a disc into iTunes. However I would not recommend it for a power user who does production work with a high duty cycle, because: (1) The unit is light and cheaply made. The disc tray is flimsy and you have to use two hands to prevent the drive from moving while you press the EJECT button. (2) The unit produces a fair amount of noise and vibration. I placed mine on a metal shelf and found the high vibration level unacceptable. I fixed this by setting the unit on a piece of bubble-wrap.

The DVD reader/writer works very well. And it is fast. As someone I believe mentioned in a review, there is an issue the first time the device is connected, not recognized by Windows. All that needs to be done is to disconnect it from the computer, wait a few seconds and them reconnect. Windows then finds it. After that first time this is not an issue. I definitely recommend this unit without reservation..

Purchased product to burn to burn CDRs after the optical drive began to fail on my old 2008 iMac desktop. This external burner represented a very reasonably priced alternative to having desktop computer taken in and repaired. Unit was perfectly compatible with iMac and seems to perform its functions well. The burner seems somewhat flimsily constructed and its long term durability remains to be determined, but so far I’m quite satisfied with this purchase.

Plug it in and you’re ready to go.

Save your $$$ and buy it over Apple external drive. Probably made same factory.

SO FAR, SO GOOD (playing movies), but the real test remains: Burning photos and videos.
Hilton Turner (verified owner) –
I can watch a DVD on my laptop with no difficulty Burning a new DVD is problematic, but it may be user error since there are no clear instructions The price was right and I expect this drive to operate so long as it is handled gently The other reviews helped me in making this choice.

Easy to use and excellent for the money.

I bought this to watch home movies on disks on my macbook pro (the newer version that doesn’t have a disk drive). I didn’t realize this product worked on tv’s as well so now my roommate and I don’t have to buy a DVD player! Super cheap (compared to others on the market) and works with a super clear picture!

I’m using the LG GP65NB60 Portable USB External DVD Burner with a 13″ MacBook Pro (Late 2011) running High Sierra 10.13.3. I’ve successfully used this drive to rip several DVD movies to my computer, and also used the drive to burn a DVD. I bought this drive when the internal optical drive died (and of course Apple doesn’t have parts for a computer this old). So far it works for me.

Plugged in and worked as advertised!

Works with my 2011 MacBook. I bought this because my factory installed optical drive stopped recognizing disks. Just plug into USB port and play. Very satisfied. 4 stars because it’s a bit flimsy. But use on a hard secure surface and no problems.
