The silver GP65NS60 Portable USB External DVD Burner and Drive from LG allows you to read and write on DVDs and CDs with your computer. This drive connects to your Windows or Mac computer via USB. It features 8x DVD and 24x CD read and write speeds. To offer a better movie experience while watching a DVD, this drive provides Silent Play technology, which automatically adjusts the read speed to reduce its noise level. In addition, this drive supports TV connectivity with optional hardware. It also has Jamless Play so you can watch videos continuously by skipping over erroneous data or damaged areas of the disc that may stop your video. Furthermore, this drive can use M-Discs (DVD+R SL only), which provides data protection by using a patented rock-like recording surface instead of organic dye to etch your data onto a disc. Along with the drive are software programs that include Power2Go, PowerBackup, YouCam, LabelPrint, and Norton Internet Security (60 days).

I use this optical drive as an adjunct to a small Lenovo laptop which does not have one. Takes up almost no space in the computer case and is so light you won’t notice it’s there.

great item love it

This drive is not compatible with any of the M-disk DVD-R media readily available (even here at B&H). Only works with DVD+RM-disc.

I purchased it about 6 weeks ago and finally needed it. Very rarely do I have problems with any product purchased through B&H but this doesn’t work; CDs or DVDs simply click endlessly when in the drive. The computer never recognizes the drive’s existence, either, including through disk utility, etc. I should have checked it immediately and am outside of the 30-day return window, so I’ll just toss it.

So far it is okay. Easy set up.

I bought this for my wife, who needed an optical drive after she got a new MacBook Pro. On the plus side, it worked without a hitch right out of the box, but despite only occasional use in six months and reasonable care, this writer now just clicks and makes noises. Sadly, it’s not heavy enough to be a paperweight and not absorbent enough to be a coaster, so I guess it’s going into the trash.

works great

I bought this months ago as a spare just in case my full size LG writer fails after about a year of use(I don’t expect them to last more than a year and a half). Well, my full-sized LG died, could not be recognized by ROXIO burning software and my ripping app. I opened this brand new writer and signs of trouble immediately appeared, it would not rip properly then when I burn DVDs, I am getting buffering problems, something I have not seen for a while and did not expect from modern writers. Sure enough, just about every disc I tried to burn, Sonys , HP, Verbatim, Taiyo Yudens, the usual reliable stock I have that worked well with my defunct writer, pretty much all failed. The star I gave to is for it’s good looks, functionally, it’s a dead weight, piece of junk. Now it could be because I am using Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite even though the specs. say up to 10.7. But I think the hardware is faulty. I replace it with a Pioneer, bought here…cost about 3x more but it run rings around the LG. This one is not worth running around period!

I was somewhat nervous about buying this product since I have a Mac. The customer representative assurred me it would be compatible. All I did is plug it into my laptop and it worked. Plus I saved over fifty dollars compared to the Apple price! Hurrah for B&H.

It is very east to use with my hp laptop. Plug & play so to speak.

The product works great on my Mac computer, but it’s a little bit difficult to use with my Microsoft surface laptop. I’ll have to download software in order to for the computer to recognize the DVD player. I wish the DVD player came with software that would’ve made this whole process a lot more simple.

I have owned this for a few years now. I received it as a gift. I’ve only used it a handful of times but, it worked just fine. It will read discs that the internal drive (same brand) in my desktop will not. That has been its primary use — to serve as a backup when my primary drive doesn’t function properly which, happens far too frequently.

fulfills all expectations! easy to use! 100% satisfaction!
