The silver GP65NS60 Portable USB External DVD Burner and Drive from LG allows you to read and write on DVDs and CDs with your computer. This drive connects to your Windows or Mac computer via USB. It features 8x DVD and 24x CD read and write speeds. To offer a better movie experience while watching a DVD, this drive provides Silent Play technology, which automatically adjusts the read speed to reduce its noise level. In addition, this drive supports TV connectivity with optional hardware. It also has Jamless Play so you can watch videos continuously by skipping over erroneous data or damaged areas of the disc that may stop your video. Furthermore, this drive can use M-Discs (DVD+R SL only), which provides data protection by using a patented rock-like recording surface instead of organic dye to etch your data onto a disc. Along with the drive are software programs that include Power2Go, PowerBackup, YouCam, LabelPrint, and Norton Internet Security (60 days).

I got my LG GP65 a couple of weeks ago, and I am quite satisfied with it. I dont see where on my computer (iMac) it says it recognizes the device–but that hasnt stopped it from working just fine. My needs are simple, and so is the LG GP65. So count me a satisfied customer.

Very small does what it’s suppose to do

I bought this burner to use with an iMac with High Sierra to burn photographs. The first one wouldn’t burn anything. The replacement wouldn’t burn anything either. It would play CD’s, but not burn. I called LG for help. Spent almost an hour with a guy in the Phillippines who had me download software called Express Burn from an Australian website that was supposed to enable my Mac to use this burner. He couldn’t figure out how to make the software work either. Finally, I gave up in frustration. I will buy the Apple burner despite the price. If a burner claims to be compatible with PCs or Macs, nobody should have to go through this kind of trouble to get it to work. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!!

I just bought my first laptop without an optical drive, so I needed something cheap and easy to use. This device did the trick.

Took a little time to set up on the Mac but works fine and is much cheaper then the Apple DVD drive.

If you own an iMac or macbook that had an original cd/dvd, then you took the original cd/dvd out to upgrade the hard drive like I did, you will find the hard way that Apple crippled the Apple Superdrive so as not to work on such upgraded machines. Why? Who knows… I made the mistake of thinking the Apple superdrive would work on my upgraded iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011). Nope. So I returned it and bought this LG burner. It’s something like $ less than the superdrive and oh by the way, IT WORKS. Now, if you have an iMac or macbook that did NOT come with a dvd/cd built in, the Apple SuperDrive WILL work on your computer. But heck, I’m hear to tell you, why spend the extra $ bucks? Just get this.

It’s made cheap, but it reads dics and that’s what I needed it to do.

Bought it for use with a 2019 MacBook Pro (M1 chip). Plug and play, no complaints.
Gertrude Maggio (verified owner) –
put a disc in and let it run, nothing else to do. But be aware that it might lock on the language of the discs you put in after 3 – 4 times

It works! It’s a DVD player for my old and nostalgic DVDs. It’s as simple as that. Quiet and functional.

I don’t have any negative thoughts on this. Only pros: – Slim – Quiet – Consistent performance – Good value Glad I purchased it.

Easy to install and very compact. Even with COVID it arrived in a timely manner. Good job

I really missed the elimination of the built- in CD/DVD burner from the iMac. This little inexpensive accessory fixes that problem perfectly. I do hope that it proves to be durable too. It is very light and possible fragile. We shall see. In the meantime, I am very happy.

I was forced to buy an external DVD drive there is none in my new laptop. Since the price was reasonable, and the LG drive is easy to use, and works well, all is well.

Does eveything you need

I’ve been working on a MacBook for a while with no DVD player of course. Had need to get some media from a disk and instead of calling friends and borrowing drives I bought this at a very reasonable price. What I later discovered is that techies still rely on DVDs for backing up files. Its somewhat past and future proofing.

Used it to copy photos off a DVD and copy a movie with my MacBook Pro.

The feature set and performance of the player was everything I expected (but don’t always get) with hardware these days. I also found the reviews on the B&H site helpful. The included software does all right on playing DVDs on Windows 10, and since Win10 no longer includes a player (unless you worked things right to get legacy treatment for MS Media Player), you’ll need something. I’m annoyed by the incessant upgrade reminders from the included s/w, and the resolution doesn’t seem as sharp as it should be on my UHD monitor. I’m hoping it’s the s/w instead of the h/w, so would be interested to hear the experience of someone with good DVD player software.

Worked right out of the box on my Macbook. Fast, easy, affordable and portable. What could be better?

I’ve only recently purchased but has worked as I have expected. It is a nice, compact player. I have yet to try to burn anything.
