Boost your home wireless coverage with the MR8300 Tri-Band Mesh AC2200 Wi-Fi Router from Linksys. Supporting the Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) wireless standard, the tri-band MR8300 is capable of up to 2.2 Gb/s total Wi-Fi data throughput and comes equipped with four Gigabit LAN ports, a Gigabit WAN port, and a USB 3.0/3.1 Gen 1 Type-A port.
The MR8300’s support for Wi-Fi mesh networks means you can extend the router’s coverage by installing more Linksys Velop wireless nodes in your home. Multi-user MIMO technology allows for multiple simultaneous data connections, while Beamforming+ technology lets the router focus its Wi-Fi signals toward nearby wireless devices. Smart Connect Band Steering helps the router direct Wi-Fi clients toward the most appropriate wireless band.

I purchased the Linksys MR8300 router to replace my 5th Generation Apple Airport Extreme which did not support IEEE 802.11ac. I like Linksys products having used them at work and home. My first home router was a Linksys WRT54G which was very reliable. The MR8300 router is listed on the Apple Store which I view as a vote of confidence from Apple. Configuring the MR8300 router was easy using their iPhone app. I have a 200 MBps service with Comcast. My fastest hardwired speed test yields 238 MBps download and 6 MBps upload. My fastest wireless speed test yields 225 MBps download and 6 MBps upload. The router meets my need for speed. I did not like that Linksys requires use of a phone app to initialize the router. However, once the router is initialized you can access it via a web browser on your local network. You can also access the router from anywhere using your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi account. I will not access my router using the account method due to security concerns. The only difficulty I had with this router is using the device prioritization feature. After establishing a prioritization, I experienced poor Wi-Fi speed for all devices. I disabled this feature and still had speed issues. While keeping the prioritization disabled, I used the reset command for device prioritization and now have fast Wi-Fi speeds again. This review was done after one week of use.

Really pleased with the download speeds. Faster than the internet provider modem. Let me explain something. Constructed an out building 200 feet from the house. Needed to get internet there. Installed a new cable line to the part of the house closest to the building and activated a Motorola AC3200 modem/router. Could get speeds of about 35 Mps. Installed a GNS 5.9 GHz wireless bridge and used the MR8300 on the receiving end. Getting download speeds of 140 Mps.. I am getting faster download speeds in the outbuilding than the either modem in the house. Really pleased with customer service at Linksys. Here is a tip. You will need to use their APP to set up the device. When you go through the setup process you will need to set up an account. After you do that and go to the next step, STOP. May have to use another device to do this so you do not interrupt the process on your phone. Go into your e-mail and activate your account. Otherwise you will be in an endless loop of setup. Didn’t realize that until while talking with Tech Support. Really pleased with this. More pleased with the service from B&H. Products in stock and quick delivery.

I purchased this when I upgraded my internet service to 450Mbs. It is, through the iPhone bluetooth interface, very easy to set up and it gives me full speeds when in the same room and the adjacent room and about 50% speed when in my farthest room (about 70 feet away in an apartment full of concrete columns, metal bookshelves and intervening rooms). I like the fact that it is mesh-capable, should that be required. Connecting directly to the router outside the mobile app is an undocumented feature, but by connecting to the private IP address in the usual way (192.168.1.1), the full host of router functions is available from a real computer in a convenient graphical interface. This is good to see.
