This is the second one that I have and it is the best!!! I basically use this for Sunday pot roast cooked in the oven for about 3-1/2 to 4 1/2 hours. The other food I like to prepare in it is baked beans. Being pre-seasoned makes it even more appealing. Cannot wait for Sunday, just typing about pot roast is making me very hungry. Great product you’ll love it!

I am a BBQ, Smoker, Griller, Blackstone griddle and Pizza Oven, and Pellet grill owner. But I also cook on a lot of Cast Iron. I have personal cookie sizes, three pan and a griddle in two types, but I never had a Cast Iron Dutch Oven until now. It is used to cook a different way. Lodge has been around a longtime, and although there processes has changed over the years, the products are the same. I bought a 9 inch pan at a garage sale, all rusty and disgusting. My wife thought I was crazy, but with a lot of elbow grease, quart corn oil and three cups of Kosher salt on the stove and oven, now it is her go to pot for baked brie. This is the first time I used it, and although there may be a learning curve, don’t even think about it. It worked great. It is easy to clean, just wait until it is room temperature, use a non soaped scouring pad and scrub, spray with cooking oil and massage into pot and put it away. That’s it.It is heavy, but that’s the way it works. Look at my dinner of pulled pork and drool. Recipe:One boneless Pork Butt6 ounces of Mojo Criollosalt and pepper to taste.Cook in Dutch Oven for 6 hours on low after it comes to a boilPull and eat, Mmmmmmmm

Received the 5 Qt. Cast Iron Dutch Oven last week. After curing all day Saturday using pork lard I put it to the real test by cooking a pot roast Sunday, there is nothing like cooking a roast in a Cast Iron Dutch Oven. Seems like what ever you cook it comes out tasting better and tender. One thing I really like about Lodge product that it is made in the USA. I would recommend this product to everyone.

This is the third member of my cast iron collection of cookware. Expectations were high…and this dutch oven did not disappoint ! This pre-seasoned (baked-in coating of oil..for those new to cast iron..) dutch oven, with loop handles and a self-basting lid (that’s what those little nubs are for…to direct the condensate back down onto the item being cooked) met all expectations. Even the addition of lemon juice to the chicken jus/veggie mixture did not seem to affect the pre-seasoned coating. Clean up was a breeze, after cooking a whole chicken and vegetable mixture. The literature packed with the pot notes that the manufacturer has been around for over 100 years…I would guess that most of their products that have been properly cared for are still around..this is a well made item. Just make sure you have a supply of pot holders and trivets… cast iron holds its heat. One benefit of the slow cooking method used with a dutch over is the tenderness and moistness of the meat being cooked.

It was too heavy for me to lift, so I had to return it.

Lodge Cast Iron just does it right. This is a heavy dutch oven with a heavy lid that heats evenly and retains heat extremely well. It’s big enough to cook a whole chicken with room leftover for vegetables around the perimeter. The pot does sit a little tall with the lid on. It will be fine for a standard oven, but in my double oven it wouldn’t fit in the top compartment, and it only fit in the bottom after we moved the rack down. Great dutch oven though – cooked an excellent meal! Can’t go wrong!
