This is the second of many Lodge branded cooking pans I’ve recently acquired from Home Depot and it will NOT be my last. We reside in the city and during summer months grill often outside just to prevent heat build-up in the house during the dog days of summer. After Summer we then clean then store the Weber grill making inconvenient to grill since gill marks on meats are tastier. We can now continue enjoying grilled steaks, burgers, seafood using this grill pan (using kitchen gas range) which gives fantastic grill marks due to it’s raised iron ridges on the bottom of the pan. Because this is a thick forged iron pan it quickly heats up and retains it’s heat. Uneven cuts of meat or seafood grill consistently well . Our household is currently replacing all of our current pots and pans with cast iron simply because we are tired of having to replace over-hyped expensive sets of pots and pans due to warpage, loose/broken handles or unsightly dings and scratches inherent with bargain brand pots and pans. All Lodge branded skillets and pans are all American made which is another plus….no worries about harmful materials used to create these wonderful pans and skillets.

I find just about any meat that I want to cook, that I will pick this pan to use. The ability to have your meat look and taste like it was grilled outside is simply perfection. Granted it is not outdoor grilled, but you also do not have to deal with any of the hassle of using the grill outdoors. This pan is well made after all it is a Forge. It will provide you with years of life. Once it is seasoned it is a breeze to keep clean.

I am a new devotee to cast iron. I have already destroyed the indestructible ceramic non-stock pans, despite caring for them and seasoning them exactly as instructed. But I have two cast iron loaf pans that haven’t failed me once in several years. Naturally non-stick after all this time, the bread just tips right out without having to even shake or jolt the pan.I think I’m going to love this one just as much after time. The grill marks is makes on the food is just a psychological bonus. I have “grilled” chicken breast and slabs of zucchini that came out wonderfully. I also fried bacon in it and the grease just drained away. Having the other handle is a godsend, because this puppy is heavy! as such, it heats evenly. I questioned getting the grill pan because there are things I would like a flat pan for as well, but it’s not like I can’t get another. 😉

Cast iron distributes the heat from stove burners, campfire or grill evenly across this pan so there aren’t any hot spots which cause the food cooking to sear and stick to the pan. This pan is perfect for steak on the stove top, sausage, bacon or even a roast pan when it is covered. Unlike a standard “spider” cast iron skillet its shape better accommodates certain foods – especially meats. The opposing handles also eliminate that awkward tipping usually encountered with circular pans. A couple of hot pads will allow easy pickup of the pan for service or cleaning. It is best to hand wash and coat with cooking oil for the next cooking session.
