Whoever wrote the tool description knows nothing about tools or carpentry/cabinetmaking. The sliding rule (it is not a ‘slide rule’, as engineering students know) is used for inside measuring, not for adding an additional 6 inches to a 72 inch rule. Unfold the rule to the appropriate number of six inch articulations, then extend the sliding rule to meet the opposite stop point and add the measurement of the extension to the fixed measurement.

I bought this because I needed to measure the inside height and width of my windows for new blinds. Much easier than trying to use a steel tape. Accurately measures within 1/16”. 9 windows times 6 measures per window and all the blinds fit perfectly.

The Lufkin extension ruler is well built and suits its purposes nicely. It has a metal 6 inch extension on one side which gives it more versatility.I don’t know how well it would hold up in outdoor conditions but it is most useful for measuring items indoors.
