Besides the oft mentioned hose size issue, I find it annoying that the discharge is to the same side as the height adjustment crank. When choosing which side to work from, you either have to trip over the dust collection hose or else reach across the planer to use the crank. I’ve dealt with this for several years, but I think I am going to have a custom hood made by a local sheet metal shop to correct the two shortcomings. The hood does do a good job of collecting shavings, but that may be contingent on having an adequate dust collector.

Adapted this to another make of planer with plexiglass to fill in the void to create the best suction.

Great addition to the planer to aid in chip and dust collection.

fits on easily and so far no clogging with chips. a lot of people seem upset that it doesn’t fit a standard hose on a dust collector. i don’t have any issue. yes, the sizes are not a match, however, i just slip my dc hose over the exhaust port on this, secure with a piece of twine, and what do you know, it works just fine.

The collector fit well and works as expected. You have to be clever in making a connection to a 4″ dust collector. I used a 6″ section of thin-wall smooth irrigation pipe (which fits snug on the hose connector) to a 4″ to 3″ reducer (which fits snug to the planner hood). I filled the small gap with felt and sealed it with aluminum tape and screws. I added an s-hook to the end of the collector hose and used a bungee cord wrapped around the handles to the s-hook to take any weight off of the connection. Works like a charm and is easy to take on/off.

Delivered on time. Was exactly as described. Liked the update on the shipping date. Would purchase through this seller again!

Dust collector easy to attached but the exit port is sized to be noncompatable with most dust vacuums —-a bother that requires a makeshift attachment to be used.

Does what it is supposed to do, but the 3 inch size is pretty useless. A 2.5 or 4 inch outlet would be much more useful

WE OWN THE MAKITA 2012NB PLANER, THE DUST COLLECTOR HOOD IS THE PERFECT ITEM FOR THIS PIECE TO ADD TO THE PLANER. IT REALLY IMPROVED THE PLANER, IT MADE IT SIMPLE TO COLLE3CT DUST WHEN PLANING BOARDS.

Just what I needed to keep the dust flowing and into my duct. Heavy duty. Great product.

The Dust Hood works well but whomever decided to size the outlet tube to 3 inches outside diameter, was not thinking about the convienence of their clients. It should have been made to couple with both a 2-1/2 or a 4 inch standard vacuum hose. I made my own adapter to fit the 2-1/2 diamete hoses that I use in my shop. Other than that it works great.

Since there is conflicting info all over the place I came here to confirm, with pictures, that it fits the older version perfectly. Just discard black metal piece and screw in. I’m not going to complain about the port size since the rest of the world uses the metric system except us. The outside diameter is actually 75mm. There are cheap solutions to this that are easy to find on other reviews on other sites

Even thoug the HD Expert said it will work by inserting the male end of my vac hose, it did not, as mentioned by other reviewers. I wrapped 1.5 turns of duct tape around hose coupler and got the collector to work just fineI can not understand why Makita sends this without optional connectors.

Price at HD significantly less than major on-line retailer but still a bit pricey piece of plastic and metal. Product connection had to be modified for dust collection system, this was known before purchase from other on-line reviews.

Just bought this could and the planer. Didn’t use it much, but seems to work really good. I also found a connector that fits. It is from a shop vac tug-a-long hose kit. It could probably use one layer of duct tape on the connector to get a real snug fit, but it was nice to be able to quickly pull it off and vacuum up any of little pieces between boards. http://m.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-7-ft-Tug-A-Long-Wet-Dry-Vacuum-Hose-for-RIDGID-Wet-Dry-Vacuums-VT1720/202077240?cm_mmc=SEM%7CTHD%7CG%7C0%7CG-VF-PLA%7C&gclid=Cj0KEQiAqK-zBRC2zaXc8MOiwfIBEiQAXPHrXutAkhDDMM8U6wTleHNKcU9F1xJ-M4xOFLYp74CrxSAaAvrZ8P8HAQ&gclsrc=aw.ds

Once you get it hooked up right it works well. The problem is it does not fit my shop vac. I am going to have to go to the store and get some parts, sand some of it down and jury rig it up. Maybe it fits the shop vacs in Japan where it is made but it does not fit the ones in the States

The dust collector exhaust is 3″. I bought a 3″ to 2-1/2″ converter and they are same dimension, i.e. both has same external dimension and cannot connect to each other

I am very pleased with this item, have used it while planning rough lumber and using my dust collector, not a single piece of saw dust hit the floor! Recommend this item to everyone.
