Makita’s new grinder dust shroud is designed to fit Makita 4-1/2 in. – 5 in. grinders. It features a spring-loaded suspension system that keeps the shroud flush to the surface during movement and compensates for blade wear. The shroud has a removable edge piece for surface work flush to edges or other objects. It also has soft brushes that help contain the dust and allow for smooth movement over the work surface. The outside diameter of the extraction port will work with most standard vacuum hose systems. The new dust shroud is ideal for concrete finishing, concrete material removal and paint or surface coating removal.
- Soft brushes prevent dust from escaping and help move the tool over the surface
- 4 spring suspension system keeps shroud flush with surface during movement and compensates for blade wear
- Standard hose fitting will work with most vacuum systems OD 1-7/16 in.
- Ideal for concrete finishing, concrete material removal and paint or surface coating removal

It is a perfectly designed attachment. It works to perfection. I had to wait 3 weeks to get it, but it was well worth it. This attachment itself is much more sophisticated than what you can see in the picture. It has a spring to adjust the cup up and down depending on the surface being sanded.

Highly recommend. This shroud works great. Does a very good job minimizing dust in the air, however do shake out the filter on the outdoor vacuum when you begin seeing more dust in air, as once it starts clogging, since the vacuum isn’t as efficient, more dust will be in the air. Also, empty the vacuum occasionally as well. Def wear N95 mask; those particulates in lungs could cause L/T lung issues; fully enclosed eye goggles, long pants/sleeves, hair covering

Contains the dust better than expected. Extremely easy installation.

Captures almost all the dust from grinding down tile mortar. would be better if dust port was bigger

I bought this product because I made a mess of my basement while using my angle grinder with a diamond cup wheel without any dust collection while knocking off the high spots created at the joints of the concrete forms when the basement walls were poured. The angle grinder/cup wheel generated so much dust that I could barely see what I was grinding. I vowed I’d not grind concrete again without some sort of shroud. After looking at the options, this Makita seemed most likely to fit my Makita angle grinder and that it would do the best job of containing the dust. After using the shroud the first time (connected to a small shop vacuum), it exceeded all my expectations of how much dust it would collect. I could barely detect any dust in the air at all, and with a window open and a fan blowing out the window, there wasn’t any dust at all in the air that I could see, even when backlit. The shroud easily fit onto the Makita angle grinder just like the original factory protector that came with it for use with an abrasive cutoff wheel. The surface grinding shroud is spring-loaded so it self-adjusts to keep the bristles around the circumference of the shroud against the surface you’re grinding as long as you keep the cup wheel (or flap wheel) flat against the surface. This was the best $37 I’ve ever spent.

This shroud managed to collect most of the dust while grinding concrete stairs. It would hve been nice if a standard Ridgid vacuum hose fitted tightly to the shroud dust port but duct tape bridged the gap. The shock absorber action kept dust under control on slightly uneven areas but it takes some practice to keep it parallel enough to the surface to trap all of the dust.
