Saw cuts 6 x 6 pressure treated posts with ease. Also used it for cutting 5 inch white oak slabs with no problem. Very powerful saw.

The Makita 16 5/16 beam saw was the right tool for this job. We are working on a log home repair and needed clean cuts on end of half logs. We have other tools that could have made the cuts but this circular saw with the included 40 tooth blade make near perfect cuts with very little sanding.

I am a contractor that has been building decks for many years. I am a premier deck builder. I have had many saws over the years and for cutting 6×6’s and 8×8’s it makes life easy. When you need to cut a notch in your post for the girders, it will cut the entire way without much hand work. just make a pass on each side and on bottom, tap with a hammer and done. The saw has power and will cut anything. It is however not for the weakhearted because it is heavy. I would recommend it to anyone who plans to use it for serious work.

Makita is a pretty good brand and I’ve always been satisfied with their power tools. So far this seems like a great product and it’s just what I need when I cut large timbers which have to fit together precisely. I sometimes have to cut 10 by 10s and 12 by 12’s so a normal circular saw just won’t do and a chain saw sometimes is just not accurate and smooth-cutting enough. The purchase price is exactly the same on Amazon, but Amazon has a 4 year protection plan for $29.54 compared to a 3 year plan with Home Depot priced at $130.00. I don’t expect to have problems with this thing, but an extended warranty is nice to have.

Awesome saw to cut 6×6 timbers. Very smooth clean cuts. Pretty heavy to get used to at first. Very pleased I bought this saw.

Fence is flimsy for the weight and power of the saw. Just let the saw move through the wood without forcing it so it doesn’t bind and use a guide strip. Also, check factory set blade angle for 90 degrees. Otherwise, there isn’t a reasonable option if you want to make clean cuts on timbers. Period.

Very easy to handle and use. I thought it would be really heavy but isn’t bad at all. Only get this if you are serious about timber framing or handling big beams. It’s super quiet comparatively. The rip guide works safely from 1/2″ to about 3″. Beyond that you’ll have to do something else. Has a hole for dust collection too. Cut 6″ dry cedar beam 12′ long with almost no resistance and a perfect cut surface even with the stock 32T blade.

Love the saw. Very quite but dont let that fool you. You aren’t going to be one handing this saw. It has been chewing through oak and maple 6×8.
