The Makita 3/8 drill chuck looks to be a while built all metal drill Chuck. Was told by Milwaukee that the Chuck is a little too heavy for the impact drive that I want to use it on. That it would be better to use the hex bit drills.

This is a hard to find accessory that few tool companies sell. I bought this handy chuck to pair it with a small quick release 12 volt Dewalt battery powered drill. I prefer to use this drill when I can for its power and light weight, but it restricted me to the use of only bits and drills with a quick release six sided base, limiting my choices and especially available drill sizes. Found the Makita chuck to be very high quality, just the right size and weight, and with all the good features and ease of use of a standard drill chuck, but it pops in and out of a quick release drill with the same six sided bit found on the tools designed for it, so It has opened up my entire large selection of standard drill bits and screw driver bits for easy use. Very pleased with the quality, versatility and the price, which was what I would expect for a tool of this quality. Highly recommend.

Overall I’d give this chuck a B-. It’s good because the Makita Impact Driver is only moderately useful without it – I found it problematic to load a screw bit or drill bit into the driver withOUT the chuck.On the down side, several observations:1) you have to pay between $20-$30 just to make an already expensive tool usable – but that’s a complaint about Makita (they SHOULD have included a chuck with the impact driver). 2) Regarding the chuck proper – I have a few complaints. In the first place, the chuck is too big; in fact the circumference is so large that it gets in the way of the light mounted on the impact driver. 3) My chief complaint is that there seems to be no way to “lock” the chuck in the closed position; so that – especially when I am trying to back out particularly tight screws – the chuck opens up and the bit falls out rather than the actually backing the screw out of the material. It isn’t an issue when driving a screw, but it’s an issue often enough when UNscrewing that I cannot say this driver is worth the money it costs.
