Nice unit but way too heavy and aggressive for my needs. Returned it.

Great sander really like the variable speed

Easy to use, did a great job with little effort on rough pine boards.

The sander is powerful, yet versatile (variable speeds), for multipurpose sanding. It is easy to maneuver. However, my only complaint is that it is somewhat heavier than I expected. The vacuum bag works well and the medium is easy to replace.

I was somewhat apprehensive about the significant number of negative reviews regarding a raised circumferential ridge around the center of the rubber drive roller which caused the belt paper to deform and produce grooves in the work piece. I purchased the sander anyway knowing that if there were something wrong – HD would take it back. When I received the sander – sure enough – the raised ridge was there… about 0.010″. Easy fix… using a (sharp) wood chisel it took two manual turns around the roller to trim flush. I do not know if this would have caused the problem others have experienced – but I wanted to be happy with this sander.Editorial Note: Everything is getting cheap these days and quality tools are difficult to obtain. I am very pleased with this sander – solid construction, powerful, and easy to adjust/ use.

I love the power, but mostly the auto belt alignment feature. The machine weighs 10 pounds so it is much heavier than the belt sanders I have used in the past, so that took some getting used to. Overall, a great purchase that I would do again.

Love this belt sander! It is easy to use and has just the right amount of power. I really like the variable speed control. The automatic tracking feature is really nice. I’ve used the sander several times in the past couple of months. I’m surprised how effective it is yet no problem with control. The 4 inch wide belt keeps it stable. I mostly use the sander for cutting boards. After I glue up the pieces I scrape off the glue, then sand it with the belt sander. When it is fairly smooth on both sides I run the glued up board through the drum sander to be sure it is absolutely level on both sides. Seems like an extra step? The clue can gum up the sanding belt. I’d rather gum up an inexpensive 4 inch belt that can be changed in 60 seconds rather than gum up the belt on my 19 inch wide drum sander. After the board is flattened with the belt sander, the glue doesn’t seem to bother the drum sander. The belt sander is an excellent tool. I recommend it.

With only about an hours use on it I can’t speak on its long term reliability but from previous experience with Makita tools and belt sanders I have high hopes. The operation and power of this tool is fantastic. The only con for me is that I prefer the front knob design of your 11 amp Makita or smaller Porter Cable but it was important to me to have the dust bag design of this one since I tend to use it upright more often for scribing things like counter tops. Overall I am very happy and look forward to future use.

The Makita is quieter than my older belt sander. The top is specifically made flat so that the sander may be set on a table upside-down and used to sand smaller items.

The sander is top notch for flattening and I highly recommend it

Good sander but already used when received from homedepot

Came completely assembled, put it to work right out of the box. It’s lightweight, can be used on its back or side, truly one of the best belt sabers I’ve ever used in my 40 years as a furniture and master carpenter.

This tool is great for serious surface removal. Don’t buy it for small surfaces, little jobs or detail work.Everything I own by Makita is top notch. We work our tools hard and pretty much only use DeWalt, Makita, Porter Cable or Milwaukee. You won’t be disappointed.

We used Bosch for years but they quit making a 4″ sander. We switched to Makitas and are very satisfied to date.
