Thought it would have more power to strip a deck.

I’m a fairly serious hobbiest who bought this to replace my US-made Bosch 4×24-inch belt sander which was over 20 years old.Parts are no longer available for the Bosch…so I was stuck.I bought this Makita unit because: A) it has a flat-topped bag so it will fit in a table jib (holding machine upside down) B) it was not made in china c) because as far as I know there is not a single 4×24 inch belt sander made in the US any more: Porter-Cable & Bosch no longer offer them. The machine is no industrial unit like those old US-made models. But beggers-can’t be choosers, today. The machine is decently made; has an excellent long cord, and a good dust bag. I’m surprised the drive roller is only about 3 or 3.25-inches wide (belts are of course 4-inches wide). Belt tracking is good. If there is a better unit available for the average consumer, I would’ve liked to have known at the time I bought this one. I’ve only used it a month…time will tell how it holds together.

Great machine.

Excellent sander. Not many 4 inch wide, variable speed belt sanders out there. Easy belt changes, quiet for a sander, easy to handle even with its weight, which is actually a plus. If there is anything to change, a larger front handle would be better for me. Does a real nice job.

Good product, I could use a little more power and sanding speed although it was able to handle everything for my sanding needs. Auto tracking works well, didn’t need adjustable speed for which I had it on maximum. It gets a little warm and doesn’t move the material as fast relative my old all metal construction 4×24 commercial duty belt sander. The old stuff was built like a battle ship.Problem was it had a high spot rather than sanding evenly across the flat bottom of the shoe plate. I think it was the problem with the cork pad. Well see if Makita has a fix or replace the cork pad. Being right handed I had no problem with the dust bag located on the left side as noted by others. Having the ability to sand right the edge of a wall was a nice feature.

Works great, belt tracks real nice with no issues so far. I haven’t used it a lot but so far so good. Seems to have plenty of power.

After research, bought the Makita to resurface a 40 year old 7′ x 18′ deck with 2 x 6 boards that had raised edges. The Makita got great reviews and it performed up to expectations. I was able to use 2 50 grit, 3 80 grit, and 2 120 grit to smooth the boards for refinishing. No pressing on the sander is required – it tracks perfectly and has a fine centering adjustment. Deck turned out great – great sander!

It is an excellent workhorse. . Had one before with 220 volts… needed to purchase a 110 volt model.. does what itis designed for.. nice and heavy… large sanding area.It all depends on the belt used.. But machine delivers the power..use it continuously..

I have had Makita power tools in the past and was always satified with them.(ie. table saw. chop saw. circular saw) Still have them after 26 years and they have seen the’re share of many home improvement projets plus some contracting over those years. I decided on the makita belt sander because of the variable speed, decibel level and the’re proven reliability. I have had two other non makita sanders and they both died. I,m refinishing some older yellow pine floors in two smaller bedrooms and I did not wish to rent a floor sander. Just finished one of them and the variable speed was a must. Looks great!!! and I will save a good dollar doing so. I,m sure I will not be disappointed with my new sander. And the bag works great also.

Seems it is the second time I am asked to review this product.. as I said I have no issues with Makita.. the foot size is perfect for my uses.. it is heavy.. so no need to push down hard. .. I would not use it for vertical surfaces as it is heavy. What I like about this particular model is the following. .. the ability to lay it on its back and use as a stationary sander… use a jig… And the variable speed assist with the different materials..

I refinished a large dining room table that sits 8 which was in a fire that burnt the middle of the table but needed a belt sander started off with 40 grit then finished of with a 120 grit. Machine had plenty of power. Easy to load and adjusts I had very little dust as the key is to check and empty the bag as it can fill rather quickly depending on grit used and time The machine is weii built and I kepted cord on my shoulder so it would not get caught up in machine.Worth the money

Very quiet and powerful. Produced an even surface where the belt ran. Blower system operated well, directing majority of material in the capture bag. Ran it for approximately 4 hrs each of 4 nights, stopping only to empty catch bag, without issue.

The belt sander is really fast and efficient. Wood removal was a breeze and the dust collector really works to keep me breathing clean air.

Easy to use, did a great job with little effort on rough pine boards.

It does it’s job. Robust and reliable. The sanding belt that comes from the factory is good quality as well.

I haven’t had this belt sander long but I’m already impressed. Belt tracking is rock solid. Speed control is very useful. It’s solidly built so I expect it will be in my shop a long long time.
