Great belt sander for removing material with lots of control. You can fasten it to a bench top and shape small pieces with it as well.

I ordered the Makita 9903 to sand rough sawn lumber that I use to build rustic furniture. It’s easy to handle, and not too heavy that it wears out your arms. It has a long flexible cord. The variable speed is nice, but so far I’ve just used the max. speed. The dust bag is the best design I’ve seen. Unlike others that have zippers that get snagged or tear out, the 9903 uses a bag that has a thick hem, which are held together with a sliding C-shaped extrusion that slides over the hem. So all that’s needed is to slide the extrusion off the bag and it empties the dust. Simplicity is best in this case. And as far as dust collection, it collects about all the dust is generates. I notice very little or none while sanding. The construction is quality. I would definitely recommend.

The dust bag works. The sand belt tracking works well and does sand close to corners. I use it to remove paint from my deck and I wish it has a little more power but it is fine as it is. Make sure you countersink the nails or they will rip the sand belts. I have some vertical surface to work on later and decide to choose a light weight model to save my back.

This sander is a little more expensive than other 3×21 in. sanders but, after my first job with it, I was very proud of my choice. The difference in power was noticeable right away. the belt tracking was 1st class and boy, I couldn’t believe how quiet it was. This tool is first class all the way.The only unknown for me would be durability. Otherwise I would give it a five with a smile.

Top quality and versatile belt sander with variable speed. I also like the longer length of the electrical cord.

Excellent sander except the power cord does not have a ground on the plug! But it is nice and long.

I have an older Craftsman sander that is loud, heavy and a pain to change the belts.the Makita is lighter and much quieter.the Craftsman however has a much bigger dustbag.

So far so good. It’s replacing a 30 year old sander that died.

I have learned as a first time home owner that the right piece of equipment makes all the difference, and my Makita belt sander is a really high quality piece of equipment. I absolutely love it! I used it to sand down walls that were previously painted badly and needed lots of prep before painting again. I love how easily the speed can be adjusted from very low to very fast at two points, a notch on the side (speed 1-5) and via the trigger actuator. I also love how barely any dust rises in the air during sanding as the collection bag takes up greater than 95% of the dust. The machine is very well designed, and I am very happy I invested in this piece versus cheaper sanders. Next up once the rain lets up is to sand down a wooden deck out back, and I am actually looking forward to it. Highly recommend this piece of equipment!

Just what I needed to help finish some winter wood projects. Looking forward to starting a few more this year. The Makita 8.8 Amp 3 in. x 21 in. Corded Belt Sander worked perfectly. Thanks HD for your online ordering system.

Why did I wait SO long. This was a replacement for a craftsman that burned out. I struggled for years with that craftsman for 2 decks that need re doing every 2-5 years. This worked so slick and easy…. I look like a pro! Its a little heavy for vertical sanding but a belt sander is usually used for flat horizontal sanding. Great Machine!

I’ve only used the sander one week and it’s already sounding like its gonna fall apart. I bought this cause I thought it would last but apparently I was mistaken. Maybe I just got a bad unit. I’d be willing to trade it for another one and give it another shot.

I use these belt sanders in my classroom all the time.

The Makita 8.8 amp 3 x 21-in belt sander is a great product. Excellent power for my sanding jobs and great to have the variable speed. I also really like the ability to turn the sander over on a flat surface so I can use it as a full belt sander for sanding smaller objects that I hold…it should be clamped down when upside down, but for small items the unit has enough weight that you can work it without clamping, a great feature. Changing belts is very simple with the flip of one clamp. The only little negative is it does not seem to pick up as much dust as I hoped, but I suspect that is true of all.Highly recommend the sander with 5 stars.

The Makita 8.8 amp 3×21 Corded Belt Sander delivers plenty of power to flat or uneven surfaces. It picks up about 90+ % of the dust and leaves a smooth surface for painting or refinishing depending on the grit of the belt used. I was using 80g to refinish my projects. The results was remarkable. The belt stayed in position even after extended periods of running.
