I’m no expert with sanders but I’m very happy with puchase. I’m using the sander to remove layers of paint from old door frames. Using coarse sand paper I was able to completely remove 3 layers of paint – top layer was latex and the two bottom layers were oil based. I was able to get to the bare wood. It did take some time but I couldn’t possibly do it by hand. The puncher works fine. If you forget to punch the holes you will realize it once you start using it- dust everywhere. It is not dust-free even with the punch, but considerably less with the punched holes in paper. I’ve used for 20+ minutes at a time with no issues. Wear some kind of mask when sanding.

This is a fantastic sander! The only complaint I have is the sandpaper they give with the sander… it’s garbage. They would be better off not to give any sandpaper, but I didn’t buy it for the sandpaper! Highly recommend this sander!

A great addition to my collection – a must for everyone that has finish work to do. I used it for the final surface prep on a door prior to staining. It doesn’t have the horsepower of my orbital sander, it’s a better choice when it comes to sanding with the grain! Clips are great (vice velcro).

I bought this sander mostly because it was the only one in the store and I needed to sand a desk I was building. I bought various grits of paper and ran this sander through the ringer over the course of a couple days. This sander is a trooper! It’s easy to control, sandpaper retention is excellent, and the dust collection actually works! I am generally not a Makita purchaser (nothing against Makita but I usually go red or yellow!) and I probably would not have bought this particular sander had there been other options available in the store but I am very happy with its performance. Definitely a great sander!
