I bought to replace my old (other brand) that I bought used years ago. The Makita is lighter and more subject to vibration if you don’t get it on the work at just the right angle. Vibration is much more of a factor at the lower speeds. The dust collection works great when hooked up to a shop vac. Plan to do some searching where they sell dust collection equipment for a 7/8 to 2 inch adapter. I have not tried the dust bag. Note that the punch plate is not included. I made my own which works fine.

The only reason I give an average rating is because the first one that arrived did not work. Home depot was very good about returning it and ordering a new one. The second one works great.

THIS IS BY FAR THE VERY BEST, LARGE SIZE FINISH SANDER AVAILABLE. IT IS QUIET, LIGHT WEIGHT AND POWERFUL. THE PAPER CLAMPING SYSTEM WORKS WELL AND IT’S EASY TO USE. IV BEEN WORKING IN HOSPITAL CONSTRUCTION FOR THE PAST 30 YEARS IN CHICAGO AND MILWAUKEE AS A UNION CARPENTER AND THESE MAKITA SANDERS ARE NEEDED FOR THEIR WHISPER QUIET OPERATION. IT IS ONE SOLID AND DURABLE TOOL AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE LOOKING FOR A SANDER THAT WILL BE USED EVERY DAY.

Working on a project to refinish kitchen cabinets. The beautiful hardwood had been painted over and covered up. The Makita Sander, starting with 60 Grit sandpaper, took the old paint right off and exposed the beautiful wood grain. When I got tired, Makita was still going strong. I can’t wait to see my cabinets when they are completely stained and finished. Thanks Makita!

I found this sander to be a great value, with few issues. The variable speed control, dust collection, trigger lock, and good ergonomics complete the package. It does NOT come with a perforation plate to punch out your own holes for the dust collection. But it is available as an optional accessoryDust collection is a must with this beast, and the “bag” provided is a throw away in my opinion. Hook it up to a vacuum or dust collection system and let it do it’s thing. The variable speed control is a big bonus to optimize the efficiency of sanding with different grits from low to high grits, using low to high frequencies.Handles and control are very ‘ergo’ and soft feel, and the trigger lock lets you float the sander over the work piece without transferring the vibration energy into your joints and ligaments.I have been abusing this bad boy for several weeks now, and as I expected with any Makita product I have owned, this beast takes it and asks for more.

The Makita is a gift for my husband, and if his apparent pleasure is any indication of what a great tool this is, it gets 5 stars. His wood shop isn’t heated and it has been extremely cold, so he has only exclaimed how good it will work. I would have to rate the sander after it’s been used.

This sander was over kill for it’s first project. Needed to refinish two night stands that had a little water damage from someone leaving the window open when it was raining. The sander worked great. It’s quiet, fast, smooth, and the dust collector worked great, no mess ! Now on to a bigger project, my deck and it’s railings.

The only problem I encountered is that I can’t seem to purchase half-sheet sandpaper with 10 holls. I don’t think anyone in the United States makes this type of sandpaper anymore.

It is a very good sander. I had a Milwaukees and I have always liked it and this sander compares to that one.

Very quiet. Made homemade jig to punch holes in sandpaper for the vacuum system to work.Just purchased so do not know its longevity, but is well made judging by the weight and feels like professional – not homeowner’s – quality when being used.Only sander I could find that uses a one-half sheet of standard size sandpaper. Most use one-fourth sheet of one-third sheet. I wanted the additional coverage that a one-half sheet gives.Satisfied so far even though it costs more than most other sanders I looked at.

Makita is a quality product, my 1/4 sheet finish sander lasted 15 plus years . the newer models are much quieter than the older ones, and more efficient

This sander is an amazing value and time saver. I bought this sander to sand the furniture I build as a hobby. Instead of using my quarter sheet or random orbit sander I now use this. It’s a half sheet so it sands a huge area and in a sense floats out small imperfections in the work. It’s made by makita which makes decent products. Holding it is not fatiguing; vibrations are not jarring at all. Dust collection is incredible with a vacuum. I made my own puncture plate out of a piece of plywood and dowels to save ordering that.Buy it. If you look at Bosch it’s almost 400. And festool is up there too. This one is 160 and well made.

I bought the 1/2 sheet sander for a big project I’m doing and wanted one for future projects. This sander is almost vibration free and quieter than all the other sanders I own. It was easy to control and removed stock very efficiently leaving a flat surface for finishing. I am very please with the purchase.
