I used the older model for many years and it preformed beyond my expectations so I bought a new one when it began to sound like it was going to wear out.

I’ve only used this a few times sanding while laying fiberglass and so far so good. The variable speed knob on the handle is well worth the extra few dollars if you have areas that require precise work adjacent to areas that just need a lot of bulk removed (this was the cheapest variable speed sander I could find). The slowest setting ensures you don’t remove too much material while ramping it up to full speed really removes bulk quickly. The fine resin powder was pretty well sucked up into the little vacuum bag as well. I’m also pleased with side handle that is easily moved into any position around the sander. Works much better than my palm sander yet much more precise than my belt sander

From very light sanding to some very heavy sanding with 40 grit this hand sander had very good control at different speeds. Really happy I chose this sander.

Average sander, not a big fan of the trigger finger. Your finger gets sore after a while. Maybe for a man it’d be ok. Also purchased the Makita hose to connect to my shop vac to collect the dust and there was still dust that got out. Overall not much of an improvement from my black and decker I had

I have been using The 3-AMP 5 IN. RANDOM ORBIT SANDER WITH VARIABLE SPEED (TOOL-CASE) extensively since it arrived and I have enjoyed using it as it works very well.Easy on the comfort and it fits my large hands nicely.I would certainly buy again. It is costly and I will give the “value” a higher rating if it lasts me for several years, which is why I paid a higher premium price.

This sander replaced a Porter Cable sander that was never as good as this one. In fact I merely tolerated it for several years even though it was a poor performer. I really didn’t want to spend the money, but when it stopped working I had no choice. I haven’t used the Makita too much yet, but when I have it’s easy to tell that it’s a quality product. While it is relatively light weight and easy to use (with the adjustable handle) it really gets the job done. Hopefully it will continue for years to come

My kitchen cabinets had 52 years worth of shellac and grease on them (literally, I’m not exaggerating.) But they are beautiful and custom made so I wasn’t going to replace them (so stop suggesting it Lucas!) But they are now white and I love them because this little sander and I make a mighty fierce team. You should buy it. That is all, you are welcome.

I have two of the fixed speed versions of this sander, one 10+ years old, and another I just bought on sale. I ordered this variable-speed one after I already spent money on the second fixed speed model, when this model came on sale with a Makita discount. No matter, when I use them I can now go 80-grit, 150 grit and 220-grit without changing discs and wasting Velcro pads. I think these are the best disc sanders out there. I find they are as capable as any other brand, quieter, lower vibration, easy and comfortable to grip. I am a wood butcher trying to improve my skills, and comfort counts when sanding cabinet panels. Like I said, my old one is 10+ years old, give or take, and I bought it and several other sanders in a batch of stuff from an old cabinet maker closing up shop. It still runs fine, after a lot of years of heavy use by him, and intermittent use by me. When most of the others have bit the dust. I bought the second one for that reason. This new one is variable speed, so I can use coarse paper without wrecking things, and surprisingly enough, it is made in the USA, according to the box. I am a die-hard fan of “Big Red” tools, but when it comes to sanders, I think Makita is the benchmark. Recommended.

I have only had it for a few weeks but so far it has performed flawlessly. It’s comfortable, powerful, and the dust bag works fairly well. I have stripped and refinished one dresser and am working on remodeling one of the bedrooms in my home. It took awhile to get to Home Depot, however once there, I was able to pick it up very quickly.

Small home workshop with various saws and sanders. This one fits the bill perfectly. No negatives at all. Handy case also.
