Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Batteries with the Star Symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside.

Bought the Makita Impact Driver and Screwdriver/Drill combo for a home improvement deck project. I’ll give props to both in they are lightweight and seem built sturdy. The small battery may or may not be enough for your project though so you may want to consider a second battery or a larger battery. The charger will charge a battery quickly. This particular impact driver did not have enough torque for our needs and I had to return it. It tops out at 125 ft/lbs of torque. I attempted to drive self tapping screws through a metal and wood “sandwich”. The impact driver stalled halfway through and we had to pull the screws out. After the sixth screw we tried drilling a pilot hole and redriving the screws which barely worked.I wanted to love this combo, I didn’t try the drill/driver, but the failure of the impact driver to driver the screws made this a non-starter for my project needs. BUt it may work well for smaller class projects.
