The Makita 4-1/2 in. SJS II High Power Angle Grinder (GA4542C) combines power, convenience, comfort and motor-protection features for longer-lasting industrial performance. It is ideal for cutting, grinding ferrous metal, paint and rust removal, shipyard maintenance, metal polishing, general steel grinding, auto repair work, cutting brick and masonry, restoration work and more. The GA4542C is equipped with SJS II, a mechanical gear drive system to help prevent motor and gear damage by dampening the force on the gear when the wheel is forced to stop. SJS II is also features a leaf spring and cam gear drive mechanism that is engineered to reduce vibration for increased operator comfort during extended use. The 12 Amp motor delivers 2,800-11,000 RPM for versatility and maximum productivity. Labyrinth construction protects the motor with a complex set of channels, prohibiting dust and contamination from entering the motor. Additional protection features include a Zig-Zag epoxy applied to both sides of the armature coil and a powder-coating to the field. This forms a barrier under rotation and is engineered to protect from dust and debris penetration for longer tool life.

My shop has 2 of these now. We use often cleaning up metal parts and grinding welds. The first one has held upwell so decided on another. Great tool.

I had this tool for about a year before I lost my home to a fire. It was one of the first replacement tools I bought even before the house was finished. The ‘soft start,’ anti shock system in the drive gears and the variable speed all make this an easy tool to handle. With the right attachments it can go through just about anything you throw at it. I chose this model over the paddle switch version because it allows you to lock the trigger and hold it at angles which would make it difficult to hold the paddle. Be aware that it is the same as the 5″ size grinder except for the size of the guard.

Makita quality is hard to beat. I love the variable speed feature.

I have been using Makita (N557NB) grinders every day for the past three years. The amount of vibration reduction compared to that model is obscene. I recently had carpel tunnel surgery and this agitates my wrist far less than the $60 Makita model. Your body is worth the extra $100. Carpal tunnel surgery cost me $1300 out of pocket so the choice is yours. The variable speed dial is a phenomenal feature as well, didn’t realize how much I would use it until I had it. I look forward to using it to its full potential on a stainless steel endtable I’ll be making.

Exactly what I expected. Being a professional Tile Setter for 30 years you can’t beat a Makita

Nice heavy duty grinder. I like how it has a dial to adjust the speed and how it has a locking thumb button instead of the huge padel handle trigger

I have a 4″ Makita grinder that I bought new in 1978 and still use it today. I was hesitant to buy this one, as I didn’t think I needed all the features it has. Boy was I wrong. I love everything from the soft start to the variable speed. This grinder also is a lot smoother than the old one and cuts down on pain and soreness in my forearms during extended use. I really like this grinder and if it lasts as long as my other one…maybe one of my grandchildren will get to use it!

This is my first electric angle grinder, and I’ve only used it a few times so far but man, what a pleasure to use. Very smooth, even under heavy load. Spin-up is gradual so as to prevent the tool from torquing out of your hand, and I very much appreciate the safety disconnect that prevents it from powering on when plugging it in, if the tool was accidentally left or put in the on position when unplugged. I haven’t gotten it to stall yet; it’s more powerful than my air grinder, that’s for sure. The variable speed is very helpful for more delicate operations which require a lighter touch.

I really love the grinder and would love to continue using it in my everyday work, but… it’s been stolen from me. Unfortunately I didn’t record the serial number in order to report it stolen. I’m wondering if youre able to look back through my order and give me the serial number? Thank you
