It was bought because I needed a drill with a lot of continuous power. It has not disappointed me. I would definitely recommend this drill to anyone.

Previously bought and returned a “green” hammer drill. It got so hot I had to wear gloves. This drill barely got warm and went through filled block and brick like butter.

I loved this drill when I first got it. Tons of power, worked well the first day I had it. The chuck and chuck key started getting rounded to the point that it was almost unusable after a month. Wound up returning it

This is a replacement for one that I had for many years and I know this one will be. As good or better than the previous one

I bought this drill at the local store. I had just came across two jobs that needed it:1. because I needed a very powerful cord drill2. I needed a drill larger than the standard 1/2″ chuck.Other than the heavy duty commercial drills I’ve owned and used, this is one of the best hand drills that I used so far. The price is right and the the brand too.Only time will tell about the durability.

Beyond simple light tasks, I used this hammer drill on two tough projects. Both tasks were in drill, not hammer mode. One was drilling a 5/8″ hole with a spade bit through 2 1/2 feet of live elm (to bolt the tree together where it was splitting). The lead screw at the tip of the bit fed the spade bit too fast for the drill to turn it. I ground the threads off of the lead screw and was able to bore through the tree in about 10 minutes. It would have been nice if the drill had been able to drive the spade bit as designed. The second job involved drilling holes for DWV plumbing pipe. This task proved too taxing for the drill. The hole saws stalled the drill on several tough cuts. After completing the job I heard a roughness when the drill ran. I took the drill apart and found that several of the teeth on the driven gear and one on the driving pinion to be damaged. The drill still ran but, clearly, the motor put out more torque than the drive could handle.I feel that I have abused this tool and that under “normal” circumstances, it would not have been damaged.

I am very impressed with this drill! I went for a cheaper version since I don’t need a hammer drill often but was extremely surprised by the power and performance. Considering the price and size I didn’t expect much, but it made drilling multiple holes into my outside concrete block wall beyond easy. I am a light weight girl and didn’t need any strength or use any force to get the job done. This drill will definitely replace my current “normal” electric dill.

I bought my first Makita drill in about 1980. It still runs great and has seen some hard use with no problems. I am in hopes that this light hammer drill will be as good. Only time will tell.

The drill is awesome, but the chuck key that ships with it is incorrect for this model. It was nearly useless.I purchased a Ryobi A10MK02 3 way 1Ž2″ chuck Multi chuck keys after the first use and now i can tighten the bit and not loosen. Cheap solution to make this drill totally awesome.

I live in a 150 year old brownstone with brick, lathe and plaster walls. I use this drill solely for residential tasks. It has plenty of power, is easy to use and is highly effective. I could not be more pleased.

drills holes in concrete much more quickly than simple drill. I used to wear out masonry bits quickly with regular drill, but bits don’t overheat with hammer drill, and hole is done quickly. Downside is that it is very noisy- earplugs a must.A H* Frght tool would have been half the price, but all my Makita tools have been reliable in the past.

I saw some negative reviews on this drill, but my experience has been great. I was drilling hundreds of holes in my cinder block fence for vines, so even though I had a real need for a hammer drill, it’s doubtful I’ll need it much in the future. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money, so I thought I would take a chance on the Makita. I drilled about 500 3/16 holes with a regular Dewalt 18V drill and masonry bits. Talk about a BAD experience! It took a long time to drill the holes and I went through bits like candy. Since I had never really drilled into cinder block material, I didn’t realize that I HAD THE WRONG TOOL FOR THE JOB! Bought the Makita hammer drill thinking it might help a little, boy was I wrong. The drill (and hammer bits) made the job literally 10 times easier, and I averaged about 1 bit per 180 holes thereafter. I couldn’t believe how much easier it was with a hammer drill. I wanted to kick myself for going so long (only worked on project sparingly over months) without buying the drill. One of the most surprising and pleasing hand tool purchases of my life. I know this sounds a little overblown, but believe me, it’s not. Hope this helps others.

Good drill, used it only a few times to drill through a foundation, also to cut holes through a sill to a mechanical room. Drill cuts with ease very powerful, very happy

inexpensive, reliable workhorse : the only thing you could argue is that the provided chuck key does not fit well.A small thing in the big picture , given the quality of theb product.
