Bought this drill to put achors in a stamped concrete patio for a pergola. I’ve never used a hammer drill before this one. The drill easily drilled the four inch holes with a 3/8 inch bit and did not bind or lag at all. The look and feel of this tool is excellent and it was very easy to use.

I recently purchased this drill from the local Home Depot despite reading several (seemingly misinformed) critical reviews. A lot of the reviews I’ve seen for this drill have mentioned the chuck slipping after little to no use. The only way that would be possible is if you use drill bits with a round/straight shank. If you use drill bits meant for a hammer drill (which usually have hex shanks, SDS, triangle shanks, etc.) then there should be no reason for the chuck to slip. Put simply, do not use round/straight shank bits with this drill and you won’t have a problem with the chuck. Now the 3/4 in. listed in the product description doesn’t refer to the chuck size, which is 1/2 in., but rather refers to the largest bit recommended for this tool. In other words, the biggest bit you should use with this drill is a 3/4 in. with a 1/2 in. shank. You can find this by expanding the product details. Since this drill is meant for 3/4 in. bits and smaller, it probably isn’t a good idea to use this tool for heavy tasks like mixing concrete. That puts a lot of torque on a motor this size, and will probably burn it up. If that’s your intent, get a bigger drill. This one is intended for much smaller tasks.I’ve only had it a couple of days, so I can’t speak to longevity, but it seems sturdy and has performed flawlessly at drilling pilot holes into 50 year old cinder block. I’m pleased so far.

This drill works very well for drilling steel, concrete, thick wood and other demanding materials. I especially like the two speed function. However, it is heavy and also not suitable for driving screws (an impact driver is the right tool) I would not recommend this if you are just looking for an around the house light duty drill, but it is great for heavy duty use.

The chuck key is easily lost and is an odd size. The trigger lock can stick and cause the drill to keep twisting when it hangs up. Can potentially twist the operators arm. It even twisted up the electrical cord and shorted it out where the cord broke. A safety issue! Works well good price!
