The Makita 1 in. AVT Rotary Hammer (model HR2641, with D-Handle) is engineered with Anti-Vibration Technology (AVT), an internal counterbalance system for significantly less vibration. The HR2641 combines performance and power with less vibration in a compact size and is ideal for a range of applications including overhead drilling. The HR2641 has an 8 Amp motor that delivers 2.9 Joules (2.1 ft. lbs.) of impact energy to handle the most demanding applications. The 3-mode operation offers “rotation only”, “hammering with rotation” or “chipping only” for multiple applications. Modes can be easily changed with a recessed hammer-function selector, which is located below the gear housing for improved durability. The ergonomic D-shaped handle with a rubberized soft grip provides increased operator comfort, as well as a retractable tool hook to secure the tool to studs, ladders and rails when not in use. The HR2641 is engineered for a range of applications including overhead drilling into concrete, wood and metal, removing tile and more. It is ideal for a range of trades including masons, plumbers, electricians, sprinkler installers, city maintenance crews and general contractors seeking a best-in-class 1 in. rotary hammer.
- Powerful 8 Amp motor delivers 2.1 ft. lbs. of impact energy to handle the most demanding applications
- Anti-vibration technology (AVT) is an internal counterbalance system that greatly reduces vibration by moving a counterweight in the opposite direction of the drive piston
- Integrated damper spring at the base of the impact bolt is engineered to absorb impact vibrations from the drill bit
- Retractable hook allows tool to remain close by but never in the way
- Recessed hammer function selector located below gear housing for improved durability
- Sequential impact timing delivers timed hammering during rotation to minimize overlapping bit impacts for up to 50% faster drilling
- Variable speed trigger enables user to match the speed to the application for greater versatility
- 3-mode operation for rotation only”, “hammering with rotation” or “chipping only” for multiple applications”
- 40 bit angle settings allow the bit to be set at different positions for operating convenience
- Ergonomic D-shaped” handle with rubberized soft grip for increased comfort”
- Torque limiting clutch engineered to prevent gear damage by automatically disengaging gears if the bit binds
- No hammering when idling function helps increase tool life

I needed this to be able to get through very compacted rocks in the ground. Used a long 2.5in wide chisel to loosen the rocks and clay enough to shovel them out, or use a pry bar to get the bigger ones. Simply, would not have been able to dig the holes without the hammer drill. So for me, was a god send. I’m sure I’ll find other uses for it soon enough, as it’s a quality tool!

The “rotary hammer” made quick work of drilling a 1/2″ Dia. hole, with masonry bit, in old hardened concrete. I used the “hammering” mode, with masonry chisel bit to quickly divide a section 6″ x 6″ concrete curb. In “rotation” mode the drill has no problem with bits up to 1/2″ Dia. I tried bits from 3/4″ to 1 1/2″ diameter & each time the bits would get stuck in the 6″ x 6″ wood stock. Even in the reverse mode, the drill would not unbind the stuck bits, from the wood. The SDS-Plus chuck allows quick SDS-PLUS bit changes. I purchased a key-less chuck that inserts into the SDS-PLUS chuck to accommodate my standard wood bits. The carrying case is large enough to store additional bits, etc. The drill has good variable speed response & feels comfortable in use. I will use this tool primarily for masonry work.

this is an excellent tool- very versatile – but its a consumer device- good for breaking bricks and small types of masonary- great for drilling through CMU and other types of concretes for anchors and screws. make sure you have plenty of bits and attachments. A great tool for most homeowners

I’ve had this rotary hammer for 3-4 years and use to to drill rebar dowels or retrofit anchor bolts (3/8-5/8″ holes). Have also used it on occiasion to drill through stucco for ledger boards etc. The chipper can be used to help repoint mortar or repair cracks in concrete. This is not a full blown demo drill. Youre going to struggle using it to demo tile floors, and is not possible to demo concrete. For what I bought it for, I love it.

I have used smaller hammer drills before on a backyard patio project, I borrowed one from a friend. I finally decided to buy a legitimate hammer drill. This one was the best price in class. The hammer only feature is really nice. It drilled 5/8″ holes in concrete with ease. I literally had to back off of it to prevent myself from going too deep. I have another project where I’ll need to drill some 7/8″ holes soon, this thing will had no trouble with those either. Home Depot had free ship to my store which made the purchase really easy.Buy it, you won’t be disappointed!

10-12 amps would have been a better choice for the 8″ thick poured concrete wall I has to drill a 1/2″ hole in. However, after about 2 hrs I did make it through using this drill.

Only use so far was to drill fifteen 7/8″ holes into 5000 PSI concrete 6 1/4″ deep with no problem. Had to put a fair amount of effort into it, but the drill didn’t show any signs of bogging down. Happy with the purchase.

Purchased this to remove slate and ceramic tile. Saved me hours of hard labor. Included a 4-1/2″ angle grinder that I used to remove mastic from the subfloor with a flap disk. Have not used for drilling so I can’t comment on that. Well worth the money for the time and effor saved in hammer mode.

Powerful and efficient drilling of concrete and a quick test with a chisel revealed good hammering performance too. Feels surprisingly slim and light for its capabilities!

“Plug and Play” 🙂 We started using it immediately. We use for smaller jobs of knocking holes in sides of swimming pools. Does a nice job.

I bought one of these and was happy of its performance in drilling a 1″ hole approximately 9 inches deep in Asphalt. With a Bosch carbonate tip bit. We drilled 46 holes. my only concern is will it be able to keep up it’s performance on 400 holes we have left to go.
