The Makita 10 in. Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw with Laser (model LS1019L) delivers large cutting capacity and accuracy right out of the box. With the LS1019L, you will get all the cutting performance you need in a slide compound saw, but with the most compact size in the category for increased portability. With up to 6-5/8 in. capacity (crown molding, nested) jobs like cutting baseboards and crown molding are a snap, but with up to 4-3/4 in. baseboard, capacity, it can cut 4 x 4 dimensional lumber in 1-pass. It’s ideal for fine woodworking, carpentry, general construction and more. The LS1019L is powered by a 15 Amp direct drive motor with soft start, a key point of difference. This means smoother start-ups and consistent, constant power with no belts to slip or replace. The electric brake provides added convenience. First off, there is no perfect miter saw on the market yet. I think the Kapex and this Makita are the closest to perfection for my needs. Each saw has their strengths and weaknesses, and I prefer the Makita overall. Main reason I went with this Makita is durability and price. The Festool forums are full of stories about Kapex motor failure. $1500 for a saw and possibly $500 more if the motor goes kaput, no thanks. I’d rather just pay $500 for the Makita saw and if it breaks outside of the warranty I’ll buy another and still only be into it for $1k. Festool makes genuinely great tools, but they are not as robust as I like for that kind of money. Warranty is good but w/e.Dust collection is on par with Kapex, provided you have the CFM’s and a genuine extractor, not a shop vac. Heard some stories about the rails being off plane for some folks but mine was set up perfectly right out of the box. Doesn’t have the fine adjustment knob like a Kapex but with practice it’s possible to get pretty accurate by working the bevel tension knob. I like that it can miter 60 degrees either way, and it doesn’t need space in the rear to slide.

I really like the extremely small footprint this saw has. So close to the wall. I checked it out and it came out of the box right on spec. It cuts great. I would recommend this especially for a small shop. I am a cabinet builder so I need cuts to be right on.

Very nice sliding miter saw. Quite, accurate, and has a huge 12″ capacity for cross cut. The soft start is really nice as the saw does not kick when the switch is engaged. Very well worth the money. On par with much more expensive saws for sure.
